I am going to start taking citalopram (celexa) tomorrow for depression, how can I expect to feel?

Hopefully nothing: Generally, you should not feel any changes within the first two weeks of taking an ssri. Sometimes people will get mild side effects like nausea, upset stomach, constipation/diarrhea, dry eyes/mouth. Rarely, there may be sexual side effects. Let you doctor know if any of these occur in a way that is intolerable. After two weeks (wks 2-6), you should start to feel benefits. ...Read more

I started taking citalopram 20mg for depression and I do feel a lot better but is this something I will have to take permanently?

Trial after one year: If this is your first episode of depression, and Celexa (citalopram) has helped, you probably should take it for a year. Then if you're still stable, you can try to taper the drug and see how you react. If the symptoms return then in all likely hood you'll have to remain on the drug. Being in psychotherapy while on the medication will improve your response. ...Read more

3 weeks on 20 mg citalopram. anxiety is significantly reduced, sleep is better but depression increased. Is this common until i get used to med?

Please call doc: Not usually. With relief from anxiety and good sleep during the first 3 weeks of treatment, a depressed person may become active enough to act on suicidal thoughts. Please contact your primary care doctor or psychiatrist right away if you are thinking or intending to hurt yourself or someone else. I am not sure what you mean by "worse". Do you mean a worsening of depressed sad mood? Call doctor. ...Read more

How can I stop taking buspirone and citalopram and if i stop will i still fell the enxiety and depression?

First talk to ur Dr.: S/he prescribed you both meds to treat ur depression & anxiety. If you stop your meds on your own, it is at your own risk, not medically recommended at all. Avoid this & be safe: get a second opinion if needed, make sure you are helped and monitored by a psychiatrist you trust, together u will review your meds and consider other non meds treatment options like talk therapy, relaxation, etc. ...Read more
