Hard to say: Pains at night can be a normal result of activities during the day, and even arthritis which is commonly worse at night. Chest tightness is a concerning symptom, especially for a man in his mid 40s. It can suggest a serious problem like heart disease, or more commonly, reflux, or something like asthma. You have several things that may or may not relate. As you are suffering, best to get good exam. ...Read more

I got really bad knee pain same pain on my elbows or fingers at first they said the knee pain could be just growing pain but i highly doubt It?

Who is "they"?: You might have "growing pains", but these are usually limited to one leg at a time. There are several more worrisome things that could cause several joints to hurt, so you should definitely ask your parents to take you to a doctor to be tested for arthritis. Good luck! ...Read more

Both knee pain since 1.5 yr. MRI OK.Now left hand elbow and finger joints burning.RA factor8.6IU/ml.ESR/RPR/ASO/CRP/uric acid normal.Possible reasons?

Unclear polyarthriti: The RF (Rheumatoid factor) assay -which is, I assume the "RA factor"- varies widely from lab to lab, so I am not sure if 8.6 IU/mL is in the reference range or not (the lab should give both the result and the ref range). It's best to talk to a rheumatologist about your symptoms. It sounds complex. There are forms of arthritis which don't show up on blood tests (seronegative); you may have 1 of tho ...Read more

Hi, I have shoulder and knee pain. Im highly active. Knees hurt with exercise and when resting occasionally. Shoulders hurt when I lift my arm. Help?

Rest and PT: Your muscles are sore most likely from overuse They would benefit tremendously from balanced rest and physical therapy for conditioning. Lots of young athletes can benefit from balancing the muscles activated during exercise with those that are inhibited or weaker. PT with Core strengthening can help improve your technique. I recommend a sports medicine Doctor for evaluation and diagnosis ...Read more

I started having knee pain and they crack all the time. My dr said I have fluid in my knees caused from being a woman and we have wider hips. Really?

No: Not sure what your doctor said, but what he/she probably meant is that kneecap (patella) pain is very common in young women given the angle that their quadricep muscle makes given relatively wider hips. This angle tends to pull the kneecap out to the side and that can cause pain. Simple knee stretching and exercises should help. ...Read more

I have had a horizontal tear of the medial meniscs in my left knee diagnosed a couple of year ago. Since that time I have had moderate knee pain but I have avoided having an arthroscopy despte a doctor's recommendation. Am I likely to cause long term dama

Possibly: If you trim it it won't propagate and tear significantly more. If it doesn't stop you from your enjoyable activities then keep going. What generally happens is the tear will worsen with some event and hurt more and you may then have it fixed. The cartilage on the bone is less protected and will wear down more with time (degenerative, post traumatic arthritis). ...Read more

Would my overlapping second toe and severe bunions cause me to have knee pain and leg numbness of the same leg? I have no pre existing leg issues.

Would my overlapping second toe and severe bunions cause me to have knee pain and leg numbness of the same leg? I have no pre existing leg issues.

Pain not related: The only way that your knee pain would be related to your bunion and/or hammertoe, is the fact that they are making you walk differently due them being painful themselves (bunion/hammertoe). Consider them being indirectly related. The numbness is totally a different issue. That could be something originating from your back. Consult a professional. ...Read more
