The blood sugar concentration or blood glucose level is the amount of glucose (sugar) present in the blood of a human or animal. The body naturally tightly regulates blood glucose levels as a part of metabolic homeostasis. Glucose is the primary source of energy for the body's cells, and blood lipids (in the form of fats and oils) are primarily ...Read more
Is 11 hours fasting fine for fasting blood sugar level test or is too much and will give inaccurate reading or lesser reading?
Sounds fine: A variety of blood tests gives more accurate results if the patient has not eating food, drank beverages other than water, or taken certain medications that might influence test results. For checking fasting blood sugars, a patient can fast overnight (about 10 hours, but 8-12 hours should be fine) and then give his blood sample before taking his morning vitamins or medications. ...Read more
Normal: I don't quite understand the question. You should only be checking your blood sugar regularly if you have diabetes. In that event I would strongly advise you not to put sugar in your coffee. If you don't have diabetes there is no need to be concerned about sugar in your coffee but not too much or too often. ...Read more

It depends on when: It depends on the time of day and when her last meal was eaten. If she has been fasting all night and her morning blood sugar is >150 that is not "normal". If you are wondering about her having diabetes you can ask for a test called hgba1c. (hemoglobin a 1 c). A number above 8 would likely require some medication for diabetes. I hope this helps. ...Read more

80-100 fasting: Normal results depend slightly on individual lab. If slightly abnormal (high) can be due to any carbohydrates or sugars eaten recently especially in last 2 hrs before test. If slightly abnormal additional tests - hemoglobin A1c (glycohemoglobin), 2 hour post prandial (eating) blood sugar, or full glucose tolerance test can be done if necessary to determine if diabetes is present. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Depends: Hi. There are different normal ranges for glucose for fasting and for post-challenge (similar to after a meal, but the "challenge" glucose is 75 grams liquid glucose). 124 mg/dl is not normal for fasting, but would be normal after a meal (or 75 gram glucose challenge). Eat healthy and exercise regularly for life! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
What is a normal blood sugar after a meal? #nqlu my boyfriend is a diabetic and had a 177 blood sugar level after our meal. Mine was 157. Is that normail?
The : The most important point to stress here is when the blood sugar is taken after a meal. Two hours after a meal is a true measure of how well your body is allowing the sugar you consumed to be taken up by the cells( role of insulin). If you take it around an hour after, that is merely an indication of how much sugar you ingested at the meal and does not really tell us much. Therefore the two hour is what will give you useful information. If your boyfriend has well controlled diabetes, then his blood sugar should be 140 or less after two hours. If a non-diabetic such as yourself has a blood sugar greater than or equal to about 140 after two hours then you may have an issue with processing sugar, and will need to see your doctor for diabetes testing. There is no established normal range that we use for non-diabetics at two hours, but most doctors use the 140 cutoff. Please remember the two hour blood sugar test is the most useful. Please see your doctor if you have any further questions or concerns. All the best. ...Read more
Is 124.2 mg/dl a normal blood sugar level for a 17 years old girl after a meal for after 3 hours ?
Probably normal: Hi. There aren't diagnostic criteria for normal sugar 3 hours after a mixed meal that I'm aware of, but I'd say that seems pretty much normal. Variables would be how much carb and fat were in the mixed meal; they influence how much and how quickly sugar will appear in the blood. If you're worried, talk with your doc about doing a 75-gram oral glucose tolerance test. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
