What Is A Nitrite Positive Uti
Comprised of nitrogen & 2 oxygen molecules. Sodium nitrite is used in meat industry to prevent bacterial growth & to maintain the meat's red color (≥ 22mg/kg body weight is toxic); cooking at high heat allows nitrites to combine with Amino Acids to form nitros-amines (carcinogens). It can be converted by many pathways to nitric oxide, a potent vaso-dilator.Amyl nitrite can be ...Read more
Talk to your doctor: The presence of nitrites just means there are bacteria in your urine that make that metabolite; it needs to be interpreted in the setting of symptoms and white blood cells in the urine, and if all are appropriate, needs antibiotics. All roads lead to discussion with the doctor. ...Read more
Maybe: Leukocytes (white blood cells) are found in urine when there is any source of irritation (uti, stones, tumors...). Nitrites in urine are generally due to bacteria that make nitrites, but not all bacteria do so. The only way to be sure you have a UTI (and know how best to treat it) is to have the urine cultured, which means it is grown in a lab for 48-72hrs, then tested with several antibiotics. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I took a UTI home strip test twice, both of which came out positive for leukocytes and negetive for nitrites. Does that mean I have a uti?
Possible: Not all UTIs give positive nitrite.Leukocytes could be present if urine not very cleanly collected in female(by wiping very well with antiseptic pad &labia separated).Only sure proof of infection is culture. If you did a dipstick test at home,I presume you are having symptoms. Best to see doctor & probably you will be given antibiotic probably after giving urine specimen. ...Read more
When you do a home UTI test and the results are positive for leukocytes and negative for nitrite what does that mean?
It's a maybe: White blood cells (leukocytes) can be present without nitrites with an infection, or maybe there are white blood cells present for another reason. This is a time when you should see a doctor so they can look at the urine in a microscope and possibly culture the urine to see if there really is an infection. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I am 4days in taking amoxicillin for UTI my at home test strips still test positive for luekocytes and nitrite. Thoughts?
What does it mean when your urine is positive for Nitrite and tested moderate for bacteria? Do you have a UTI? Is further testing necessary?
Bacteria reduce NO3: These are lab findings on a urine test- and what needs to happen is for your doctor to interpret the test in the clinical setting. Specifically, I would want to 'match up' any urinary symptoms you have, with the urinary findings. A very important element of the urinalysis is whether you have white cells (WBCs) present or not. A few are allowed, but more than 5 and I would pay attention. ...Read more
I took an at home uti test. Twice I was negative both times for Leukocyte and bright pink positive for nitrite.... Does this mean I have a uti??
Yes you most likely : Nitrites are highly sensitive and specific for UTI's. It is unusual that you don't have any or negative leukocytes (WBC's) though. I suggest that you go and visit your physician or local urgent care for a more accurate test to confirm the diagnosis of a UTI and to possibly get a urine culture and sensitivity done. Symptoms of a UTI include frequency, urgency and painful urination. Good Luck! ...Read more

Cystitis: Leukocytes are our body's defense mechanism of fighting bacteria or virus. There is a reaction occurring in the bladder for some reason (and sometimes without symptoms). If your UA shows high specific gravity (>1.025), then you may need to increase fluids in your diet. Then, periodically recheck with UA test strips. If persistent leukocytes, you may need to undergo a cystoscopy. ...Read more
