Ankle Sprain: Not unusual to have it last 3 weeks, may last as long as 6-8 weeks if bad enough sprain. Some times sprains are significant enough to cause instability of the ankle. You may have torn a ligament. Ligaments don't show up on routine x-rays, so the only way to "see" them is by having an MRI of your ankle.
Unlike bone, ligaments receive a poor blood supply, so they take a long time to heal. If you have a little tear and have been walking around all this time on it, that could explain why you're still having a problem. I would encourage you to get an MRI and see what's going on with your ligaments.
Good luck! ...Read more

Sprained ankle this evening went to doctors they said its sprained wrapped it in ace bandage n aircast is she to sleep in the air cast?
OK, if necessary.: I would think that the ace bandage should be sufficient as long as the foot (lower leg) is elevated on several pillows. Some times too much compression can be uncomfortable. The decision would be a bit easier if the severity of the sprain was given. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I sprained my ankle 7 weeks ago and it is still swollen and can't seem to bend it in all directions without pain. Tried ice and elevation, wrapping?
Unstable Ankle.: Ice, elevation and wrapping is the appropriate way to initiate the treatment of a sprained ankle, provided the "rest" element in not left out. (RICE). This works wonders for less serious ankle sprains, but will fall short for the more serious ones. In these situations, the damaged tissues need to be immobilized with some element of compression. A cam walker usually suffices. Time to seek expert. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
