I have nasonex (mometasone) and astelin (nasal spray) but I am not sure wich one will be the best for sinus congestion. Please suggest me which one to take.

They are different: The best first line treatment should include saline nasal irrigation and nasal steroid spray. The steroid spray is long acting and takes affect over the first few weeks of use. The steroid spray helps decrease long term nasal inflammation. Astelin is a topical antihistamine ( like claritin) and can be used in conjunction for symptomatic relief. ...Read more

I pinched my nose and clear sinus congestion -now have fullness in left ear, slight ringing, mild pain. What percent chance do I have perf TM?

Almost zero: Under normal circumstances the eustachian tube allows drainage of fluid from the inner ear to the nasopharynx, behind nose. When the nose is pinched and pressure applied, air and sometimes fluid ise forced up the eustachian tube. This can result in feeling of fullness, ringing, and/or pain due to the increased pressure applied to the ear drum (TM). The chance of perforated TM is ...Read more

Should i be worried about ear infection? I already went to the doctor and got the medication to take care of my ear infection. But I have a bad cold as well and sinus congestion. I had to blow my nose and felt as though something was coming out of my ear

Your : Your symptoms are very common for an upper respiratory tract infection--usually viral and will go away after 10-14 days. An ear infection can also be viral or bacterial. If it is bacterial, an antibiotic should help it heal faster. Nasal congestion can lead to ear problems due to swelling of the eustachian tube that normally equalizes pressure in the middle ear. Even after the cold has resolved, the ear symptoms can last for weeks. Afrin can help, but only take it as directed for 3 days. Then stop it no matter how your nose feels--it can quickly become habit forming as your nose learns to rely on it rather than its own mechanisms to decongest. Sudafed or other decongestants can help, but have the same potential for addiction (less likely than afrin) for those who stay on it for too long. ...Read more

I have had a sinus congestion problem for almost 2 weeks. Been using Mucinex (guaifenesin) dm. No runny nose. Now extreme dry mouth the last two days. Infection?

Mouth-breathing.: Since Mucinex (guaifenesin) dm does nothing on the nasal congestion, your dry mouth is likely from mouth-breathing. Try a nasal decongestant and see if this may help (mucinex (guaifenesin) d?) . If not, see your doctor to make sure that you don't have a sinus infection. ...Read more

Sinus infection?: With sinus congestion, post nasal drip, fever, I would wonder if you have a sinus infection. You may need antibiotics, so see your doctor. In the meantime, "Simply Saline" spray, a nettie pot, guaifeniscen, may all help. If you feel severely ill, go to the ER or urgent care center. GERD can be responsible for hoarseness, choking sensation, and a range of other symptoms OTHER than heartburn. ...Read more
