Will Rocephin shots cure my 15 month old of a double ear infection and pneumonia?

My 16 mth Old has a double ear infection and a cold (a lot of mucus). Is it ok to give her whole milk or will that make the mucus worse? She is on Amoxicillin, will the milk affect the antibiotic?

Milk is okay!: Milk is okay, itis a myth that it makes mucus worse. Don't give her milk within an hour to hour and a half before or after the antibiotic, as it can interfere with absorption of the antibiotic. This is true for all meds, except those that say "take with food." Same thing goes for antacids. Hope she is better by Xmas! If she is, I know that you will be, too. Happy Holidays! ...Read more

I have a double ear infection I've been to the doctor they gave me ear drops and an antibiotic the ear drops won't go in how can I get my ear uncloged?

May need a wick: Hard to tell without seeing your ears, but it sounds like you have otitis externa (outer ear infection). Sometimes when the ear canal gets so swollen, the drops won't go through, and your doctor will need to insert a wick into your ear canal to "pull" the medicine through so it can work. ...Read more

My son has a sunburn rash on both legs and elbows. He is on a antibiotic for three days now. He has a double ear infection sinus infection?

Poor Little Guy!: Keep up the antibiotic for the full course for the ear and sinus. If he is still persisting with earaches, and also for sunburn pain, ibuprofen is a good bet. Baby has been on cedifir for 70 hours for double ear infection. He has shown some improvement but still is in pain. Is this normal?

Not optimal: If he's fever free & otherwise better it may just be slow to respond. I find cefdinir a day or two slower than Augmentin in achieving good results. The pain often reflects pressure on the drum caused by the buildup of debris & that can take a while to improve.Ibuprofen does help most. I'd call the office when it opens & discuss this with the staff. A revisit may/may not be required. ...Read more

Transient: Most middle ear infections will reduce hearing due to fluid trapped in the middle ear space. That reduction is about 40% and disappears when the infection & fluid have cleared. Antibiotics will usually kill the germs within 7-10 days but the fluid may persist for a few weeks. Many docs will suggest an ear recheck a few weeks after completing treatment. ...Read more
