What is a CT cystogram?

What is a CT cystogram?

Two ways: Sometimes, if there is concern for bladder injury, a catheter is placed in bladder and the bladder is filled with contrast prior to ct. However, it can also be done with a high dose contrast ct protocol. The contrast is given IV and ct images of kidneys, ureter and bladder are then obtained.

Computed Tomography (Definition)

Ct uses xrays taken an 360 degrees combined with a computer to see"inside" the body. The table moves as the xray tube and detectors spin around the patient 10 times a second or more! The image shows excellent soft tissue detail, enhanced with injection of intravenous contrast or oral contrast. This way the body is shown in slices, in any plane, usually axially, but ...Read more

A cystogram...: Is performed by radiology to assess the bladder. The exact procedure will vary depending on the reason for the exam. You will undress and wear a gown. See below: This is done to see if there is any problems with the ureters, which lead from the kidneys to the bladder. Some children with recurrent uti's may have reflux of the urine from the bladder toward the kidneys, which is abnormal. However, the recommendation for obtaining this study has changed. Not really: Cystogram is an x-ray test not likely to cause your symptoms. I would be more interested in why a young male needed a cystogram? I assume you are seeing a urologist. If not, you may want to do so. The indications for cystogram are very narrow.

Cystogram shows source of blood in bladder!?

Blood in bladder: A cystogram may show the cause of blood being present in the urine. Additional test may be required such as cystoscopy - looking into the bladder with a small scope, ct scan of the kidneys and bladder, cultures, specialized test for bladder cancer, etc. Some patient will have negative workups and just have a microscopic amount of blood noted on urinalysis when tested.

What to do if I had a cystogram 6 days ago and now I have painful urination and blood when I orgasm what is the cause of this?

Likely a UTI: Not uncommon following a cystogram. Impossible to avoid pushing bacteria up urethra with catheter insertion. We add antibiotic (80mg gentamicin) to the Cystografin used for cystograms to prevent just such UTI. Advise to contact Dr who either ordered or performed procedure as you now need an appropriate antibiotic to treat your procedure caused UTI

F 26. Voiding cystogram for frequent urination, it showed a 1cm bladder diverticulum on rt side. Waiting for urologist appt. What does this mean?

Not serious: Bladder diverticuli are small out pouching or herniations of the bladder lining or mucosa through muscular bands of the bladder wall. Your diverticulum measures 1 cm, or less than 1/2 inch which is quite small and rarely of any significance at the size. Your urologist will review your voiding habits with you.
