How can I balance breastfeeding on demand and weaning my infant off of breast milk?

How can I balance breastfeeding on demand and weaning my infant off of breast milk?

Don't be in a hurry!: The simplest, most natural way to wean is when your child initiates the process, usually around when solids are started. But if you're ready and they're not, try slowly tapering the number of nursing sessions every two or three days by replacing a nursing session with an alternative meal from a bottle/sippy cup/other foods (if ready). Can a nursing mom pass beano through her breast milk and will it help the baby be less gassy?

Can a nursing mom pass beano through her breast milk and will it help the baby be less gassy?

Great question!: Sorry, but no. Gassiness in a baby is more due to swallowed air rather than indigestible foods for which the enzymes in beano work. So even if it passed through, your baby would still be gassy. Ask your pediatrician about this, as lactose intolerance usually occurs after weaning. ...Read more
