What if something goes wrong in labor and I am with my midwife?

What if something goes wrong in labor and I am with my midwife?

Best judgement: Your midwife will use their best judgement. If it's something that they can handle safely, based on their experience and qualifications, then they will do so. If it's over their head (again, in terms of experience and qualifications), then they will get you to the hospital to protect both you and your baby. Best care -use midwives practicing in the hospital birthing center. ...Read more

I always feel like i want to be diagnosed with sonething and be in the hospital all the time! what's wrong with me and why do I feel that way?

Need for attention?: There are various reasons for this. At one extreme is munchausen's disorder. Or possibly it's a strong desire to be taken care of that may be related to either a lack of attentionin general or excessive attention when ill as a child. You should discuss this with your doctor and get a referral to apsychologist or psychiatrist who specializes in somataform conditions. ...Read more

I : I hope you have seen your doctor by now. If not you must do so immediately. For you or anyone reading this post, when you feel decreased fetal movement you must contact your doctor right away.. Fetal movement will decrease as the baby get larger and there is less room, however "barely moving in the past few days" is a serious sign. I hope all is well. ...Read more

If my doctor thinks something is wrong with my pancreas and I have the chills and spiked a fever and am really nauseous should I go to the er?

If my doctor thinks something is wrong with my pancreas and I have the chills and spiked a fever and am really nauseous should I go to the er?

Yes.: A fever that doesn't come down with Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen) and inability to keep food down would be reasons to go to the er. Your mention of pancreas problems ads another layer of complexity to your case, and you should go sooner. You probably need to get labs and a ct scan to check it out and take care of problems earlier. ...Read more

I have pain on both sides of my belly button. It's only when I am stressed or eat too much. I have been to doctors, the ER and specialists. All tell me nothing is wrong. What's going on?

I have pain on both sides of my belly button. It's only when I am stressed or eat too much. I have been to doctors, the ER and specialists. All tell me nothing is wrong. What's going on?

Maybe IBS: The differential diagnosis for your problem is broad, and lots of negative tests don't always add up to mean "nothing is wrong" but the likelihood is certainly high for you having irritable bowel syndrome (ibs). When you refer to healthtap about ibs you will appreciate that it is a symptom complex often associated with abdominal pain at times of stress or with gut distension. Relief is available. ...Read more

I am 38 weeks pregnant and have gestational diabetes, my dr examined my cervix this morning and said that I'm 1cm dilated, and that she can feel the baby right there on my cervix. Would I come into labor any day now? Thanks!

I am 38 weeks pregnant and have gestational diabetes, my dr examined my cervix this morning and said that I'm 1cm dilated, and that she can feel the baby right there on my cervix.
Would I come into labor any day now?
Thanks!

Full term: At 38 weeks you are considered full term and at that point you could technically be ready to go into labor at any point. Since your OB can feel that you are 1cm dilated, this is not terribly unusual at your stage. Although the baby might be sitting right on your cervix, he/she may still still there for another 2+ weeks, OR they may come out any day now. it's certainly the Great Waiting Game! ...Read more

I am 35 weeks pregnant with twins and am feeling a lot of preasure on my pelvis does that mean i will go into labour soon?

I am 35 weeks pregnant with twins and am feeling a lot of preasure on my pelvis does that mean i will go into labour soon?

Probably not.: You say you are 35 weeks pregnant with twins. Not only are you close to term, but you have twins! that is a lot of weight on your pelvis, which will put a lot of pressure on it. You may go into labor, but it is not certain. Unless other symptoms and signs occur, like contractions and pains, this, by itself is not enough. However, see your doctor if you have pain to be sure and for check-up. ...Read more

When i go to my delievry and labor facility the doctors tell me im dehydrated and have a UTI but my menstral type cramps do not ease up i'm 36 weeks?

Very Common: First of all, it's good that you go to l&d for menstrual-type cramps to ensure that you're not in preterm labor. A urine test can easily be done to screen for infection and treatment is very effective. While it is common to have cramps from dehydration, it is more important to be evaluated for labor. Drink fluids as recommended and if you are unable to hydrate, sometimes an IV infusion can help. ...Read more

I went to the hospital because I was severe pain and I was told that i am passing a kidney stone. The doctor sent me home with medicine. My doctor said it take up to 48 to 72 hours of passing the stone is that true? I am a teacher so I am standing all day

Partially true: It can take a week or more or you may not pass it. ..or it can pass while you're reading this.If the pain goes away for a few days,it probably passed. You may not see it because a stone may only be a few mm or it can break up like sanding be urinated out. If you are still having pain after 1 week, follow up with a urologist since you may need a procedure to remove the stone. ...Read more
