Ovulation: Of the female cyclic hormones estradiol, fsh, lh, and inhibin-a and -b all peak at (some just before) ovulation. It doesn't make much sense to talk about one being 'higher than the other' because they are measured in different units and follow different cyclic patterns. ...Read more

White mucus week after ovulation. Its last for one day. What is it? The decline in hormone levels? Thanks

Hormone response: White mucus is not diagnostic of anything specific however if it occurs on a regular basis mid cycle, it might signal a decrease in progesterone secretion in a woman. My cycle has never affected my moods before, but recently I've started to feel emotional while ovulating. Have my hormones changed? Is this normal?

If the emotionality is really problematic and your dr sees it as different, check with a psychiatrist. ...Read more

I am wondering if an ovulation test would always be positive when pregnant. I know they test dif. Hormones, but it seems this Q has mixed responses.?

Sometimes, but: The shortest answer I can give is: OPK and hPT will both detect hCG (pregnancy hormone) so can be used as pregnancy tests, BUT the OPK is not as sensitive to hCG. Practically this means hPT will correctly show pregnancy before the OPK can detect it; making the OPK a pretty lousy way to check pregnancy. Hope this helps. ...Read more

My fsh/lh hormone is anovulation. And my doctor is putting me on progesterone... is that a good thing to get me OVULATING???

Won't help ovulation: Progesterone can be used to make you have 'withdrawal bleeding' so that you shed the lining of your uterus, to prevent a thick lining or pre-cancerous changes in the lining.

Progesterone won't help you to ovulate (release an egg) - if you're trying to conceive with irregular periods or no periods, see a fertility specialist for help. ...Read more

Can an ovulation test really detect the hCG hormone as well. Why would an OPK show up positive several days after certain ovulation?

Can an ovulation test really detect the hCG hormone as well. Why would an OPK show up positive several days after certain ovulation?

Yes: There are two subunits in fsh, lh and HCG so there is some crossreaction in the kit. The kit is used to detect lh, but it can also detect some hcg. I would not expect to see any HCG a few days after ovulation so I suspect it is just picking up leftover lh. If you were pregnant and used the ovulation kit a few days before your missed menses, it would be postitive. ...Read more
