Sweating At Night (Definition)

Night sweats may be a sign of an overactive thyroid, vitamin d deficiency, or a more serious problem like hodgkin's disease. The most common cause is probably just a heavy mattress and a warm room. The result is the same: waking up overheated and sweaty. Some people have a problem with sweating not just at night. ...Read more

I get flu quite often follow by cough .Due to this I have sleepless nights. What is the solution for this?

I get flu quite often follow by cough .Due to this I have sleepless nights. What is the solution for this?

Unusual: To get the true flu often is unusual, but getting a variety of upper respiratory colds isn't. Some people "always have it go to their chest and leave a cough", that often means they have asthma. You should get evaluated for asthma to see if that is your problem, it needs to be treated if it is. Go to your doctor to be evaluated, or to an allergist for further evaluation. ...Read more

What could be causing me to sleep during the day and stay up night I've been fighting this for months now with sleeping aids & not using technology?

Habit: If you sleep during day you will not be sleepy at night. I suggest doing phase shift gradually. Work on keeping yourself up during the day by being active. Don't eat or vigorously exercise right before you plan to go to sleep ...Read more

My daughter at night time starts with a cough and has clear phlem...No other symptoms....? What can it be ?

Night time cough: It could be due to post- nasal drip. Let her sleep with two pillows under her head, if that decreases the cough; point proven. Then you need anti- allergy meds to reduce post nasal drip. Or it could be asthma. Which means inhalers should help. ...Read more

Excessive night sweats, bad sleep, back pain since 2 weeks. Can this be due to my new foam mattress and using two blankets as the room is quite cold?

Excessive night sweats, bad sleep, back pain since 2 weeks. Can this be due to my new foam mattress and using two blankets as the room is quite cold?

Not necessarily: As a mattress change can affect your sleep and cause back pain, but less likely night sweats. Some mattress/sheet combos do not breath well, so I can't say it's impossible that it's all related to the mattress/blanket combo. But I would try to switch over to a lightweight cotton(or other natural) fiber blanket and see how you feel. Otherwise, seek an in-person eval for other issues at hand. ...Read more

I've had what i believe is flu and in4th day. Have had severe night sweats on night 2 and 3. Is this common. Symptoms are cough, aching head joints?

Influenza: The symptoms you describe are classic for influenza and while people talk about a "touch" of flu it is often more like a sledge hammer. At this point i would continue to treat symptomatically with Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen and hopefully in a few more days you'll feel better. Next year you should get a flu shot of you didn't this year. ...Read more

I have problems sleeping at night and I tried unisom, but it made feel bad the next day & I was also very jittery. What could be the reason for that?

I have problems sleeping at night and I tried unisom, but it made feel bad the next day & I was also very jittery. What could be the reason for that?

Med side effects: Unisom contains an antihistamine. Some people feel lousy when they take that type of med; depressed, jittery, anxious, or even hung over. It also makes the mouth dry. Kids, in particular, can have opposite reactions to antihistamines, getting excited instead of sleepy. Try something else-- maybe melatonin. If you have a doctor, ambien-type meds are better tolerated than antihistamines. ...Read more

I have a good size hiatal hernia, with peptic ulcers. Can this cause me to get chills an body aches only at night almost every night.

Doubtful: The hiatal hernia and the peptic ulcers are unlikely to give you night chills and aches. Are you being treated medically for your ulcers? If not then you could certainly have complications from them, but they would not present as you have described. Best to see your doc. ...Read more

Stress?: I am wondering if, in addition to physical illness, that you might also be experiencing environmental or emotional stressors. Do you find yourself battling racing thoughts that interfere with sleep? If so have your doctor evaluate you for stress, and refer you to a reputable psychotherapist to help you better deal with that stress. ...Read more
