Oil: If you have an intact eardrum with no myringotomy tubes, there are studies that demonstrate placing warm, not hot, vegetable/olive oil in the affected ear, placing a heating pad over the ear and waiting 20-30 minutes usually relieves the pain. It does not cure the infection, so consult your doctor. ...Read more

Ear Infections (Definition)

Middle ear infection (Otitis media) affects the middle ear and leads to fluid accumulation behind the ear drum. Inner ear infection (Otitis interna) is a less common inflammation of the inner ear that causes vertigo, ...Read more

If it is possible I have mastoiditis and I was given antibiotic ear drops for an ear infection, would that alone likely solve the problem?

No: True mastoiditis is an urgent problem usually requiring hospital care and IV antibiotics. I doubt anyone would send you out with ear drops if this were the diagnosis. ...Read more

Have an ear infection taking antibiotic drops but the ear has had drainage nonstop for four days how long will drainage last is this normal?

Have an ear infection taking antibiotic drops but the ear has had drainage nonstop for four days how long will drainage last is this normal?

That depends: You don't say if you have a swimmer's ear (external otitis) or otitis media with a ruptured ear drum. An external otitis is treated with ear drops alone, and the drainage should have noticeably lessened by now. In otitis media with a ruptured ear drum the drops won't be enough unless the hole in the ear drum is large, or you have a tube in your ear. ...Read more

Inner ear infection for over a week was giving ear drops no luck and now oral antibiotic taking it for 2 days not any better hearing 50% and ringing.

Give it time: The ear drops will not help an inner ear infection. The oral antibiotic sounds right, but I'd give it a couple more days before deciding that it is not working. If you are getting progressively worse, seek further evaluation. If it's the same or slightly better, wait it out! By day 5-6 of an appropriate antibiotic, you should start to see some improvement. Hang in there! ...Read more

I have a double ear infection I've been to the doctor they gave me ear drops and an antibiotic the ear drops wont go in how can I get my ear uncloged ?

May need a wick: Hard to tell without seeing your ears, but it sounds like you have otitis externa (outer ear infection). Sometimes when the ear canal gets so swollen, the drops won't go through, and your doctor will need to insert a wick into your ear canal to "pull" the medicine through so it can work. ...Read more
