Some headache medicine includes caffeine to help the pain and effect of the other drugs. How does that work?

Caffeine enhances: Many pain relievers making them 40% more effective in treating headaches. Caffeine helps the body absorb headache drugs more quickly, bringing faster relief, thus requiring lower pain med doses and reducing risk for potential side effects. Caffeine produces alertness when other meds may cause sleepiness. However withdrawal from high doses of caffeine can cause withdrawal headaches.

Why are drugs like cocaine illegal? If caffeine and alcohol are used for there psychoactive effects. Why isn't cocaine in moderation legal too?

Why are drugs like cocaine illegal? If caffeine and alcohol are used for there psychoactive effects. Why isn't cocaine in moderation legal too?

Read your history: Since the beginning of civilization, every human society has had its own particular customs, traditions & laws re what's "licit" & what's ILlicit. Not just psychoactive chemicals, but everything, e.g. marriage. The roots of what substances are legal & which aren't are not rational: they're social, cultural & historical. There are many books about this fascinating subject for the general reader.

Could caffeine react with homeopathic medicines?

Could caffeine react with homeopathic medicines?

No: Coffee -- not caffeine -- can sometimes affect people's reactions to homeopathic medicines. Responding to homeopathic medicines depends on the person's innate restorative mechanisms. Some people's systems are very sensitive to coffee, which can disrupt their natural responses to correctly prescribed homeopathic remedies. It's the coffee bean -- not the caffeine -- causing the challenge here.

What are some good alternatives to caffeine that will increase focus without the gittery side affects. Do you recommend any "smart drugs"?

What are some good alternatives to caffeine that will increase focus without the gittery side affects. Do you recommend any "smart drugs"?

Try tea Or cocoa: Theobromine, caffeine and theophylline are the main stimulants in tea. It has a similar affect as caffeine but usually you don't get the jitters. Theobromine is the most prevalent stimulant in cocoa. It doesn't give you the same jittery feeling as caffeine but still will keep you up. Try a hot cup of cocoa. Try not to make it with a lot of sugar to avoid the sugar rush and crash. Good luck!

What will happen if you mix caffeine medicine (vivarin) with sleep medicine (unisoms)?

What will happen if you mix caffeine medicine (vivarin) with sleep medicine (unisoms)?

Best not.: Since it is possible to overdose on caffeine and diphenhydramine I would not mix the two. Sleeplessness, restlessness, possible tachycardia, confusion, increase in blood pressure are all possible. If you need stimulants to work, and sleep meds to counteract their effects, you have a problem best talked about with your provider, who can help you with lifestyle change and your chemistry experiment
