What happens to mothers who test positive for meth in pregnancy?

Injury to child: In my state such results will place the mother on a list for a monitored birth & child protective services review. Most will lose the child at birth to foster care if the fetus survives the pregnancy.

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Could a 4 yr old born to a mother who was using meth during the pregnancy have learning difficulties? If so, what kind?

Could a 4 yr old born to a mother who was using meth during the pregnancy have learning difficulties? If so, what kind?

Yes: It is really unclear as to the precise nature of developmental problems in a child exposed to methamphetamine in utero. Cognitive, emotional and physical development can certainly be affected. Such a child is a risk for problems later in life. It's important to do the best for the child moving forward, including, but not limited to parenting classes to learn best to treat the child appropriately.

Will the baby test positive for meth if the mother has stop using at the begining of her seventh month?

Will the baby test positive for meth if the mother has stop using at the begining of her seventh month?

Don't try to hide: If I have reason to look, I will find evidenced of drug exposure as far back as 20 weeks of gestation, maybe earlier. Anytime is a good time to stop and would increase the chance the baby would not go through drug withdrawal, be born prematurely or stroke out. You need to let the treating physician know so proper treatments for both can be planned & risks limited for both.

Wrong question: Forgive my frankness. You are about to become a mother. Congratulations on your pregnancy. I know that you want to be the best mother that you possibly can. Please sit down and collect your thoughts. Your being tested for pregnancy won't detect your drug abuse. But a good mother-to-be will take advantage of this chance to ask her physician for help in escaping from a life involving meth. Be brave.

Will meth influence a false negative on a at home pregnancy test?

Will meth influence a false negative on a at home pregnancy test?

Unlikely: Meth is not likely to read as a positive home pregnancy test. however, meth has significant harmful effects on your body and on the baby, if you are pregnant. I would strongly urge you to stop using meth and seek help to discontinue this habit.

Would smoking Meth on a reg basis cause my Hgc levels to stay low enough to give a negative result on a pregnancy test?

Would smoking Meth on a reg basis cause my Hgc levels to stay low enough to give a negative result on a pregnancy test?

No: Please stop smoking meth especially if you want to become a mother. Some of what you have heard from "drug educators" about other recreational drugs is not true, but the warnings about meth are. You'll rip or cut your skin loose before you die. Why not go clean, get better friends, and when you are ready, head a wonderful family instead? Somebody loves you -- do this for them if not yourself.

Likely yes: And that is the least of your problems. Methamphetamine is rarely a drug that people who have used more significantly in the past can just try once and put down. You are exposing both yourself and your baby to a nightmare of methamphetamine addiction, and all the pregnancy and life complications that it brings. GET HELP WITH STOPPING COMPLETELY, and do it asap.

My friend quit smoking meth 2 months before giving birth and only used meth 3 or 4 times during her pregnancy, will it show up in her baby if they test?

My friend quit smoking meth 2 months before giving birth and only used meth 3 or 4 times during her pregnancy, will it show up in her baby if they test?

Can show up in poo: If they suspect drug use & send the meconium (the first black tarry stools) meth use during the previous several months will show positive on testing. If she ha cleaned up her act & doesn't show up on a child services watch list, they may see no reason to test.

Not where we look: If I want to verify type or length of drug exposure in a newborn I check their first poop. The poop begins to form about 12 weeks into pregnancy and it remains metabolically inactive after it forms. It can provide data looking back several months, retaining trace amounts of the drugs. Some specialty labs do hair testing which can also yield data. Blood tests record more recent exposure.

Have very irregular periods. Been 5 weeks since I had intercourse-pullout meth. Pregnancy test accurate? Do have symptoms, tested 5 days ago was negatve.

The pullout method: Isn't reliable as a form of 'protection' against pregnancy. Pregnancy tests are very accurate if taken after period is missed. If you tested over 4 weeks after the episode of intercourse then you should be able to obtain an accurate pregnancy test response.

I have a friend who is twenty seven weeks pregnant she's done herione during the pregnancy and meth once what are the chances of these drugs showing up?

I have a friend who is twenty seven weeks pregnant she's done herione during the pregnancy and meth once what are the chances of these drugs showing up?

Wrong question: Forgive my frankness. If you're really her friend, you need to ask, "What can I do to help my friend stop doing these drugs, so that she can be a decent parent? " The BEST thing that can happen is that her drug abuse will be detected, Baby put someplace safe away from a drug-abusing mother, and your friend getting clean. I can't help her, but perhaps you can. Please give it a try. Best wishes.

If a baby was exposed to meth during pregnancy... How long will it take to completely flush out of his system? Or how long will it remain?

If a baby was exposed to meth during pregnancy... How long will it take to completely flush out of his system? Or how long will it remain?

Not sure of your?: If you mean how long does it stay in the child and can cause problems, it is a very short-acting drug in both adults and children, and is quickly metabolized and excreted. But if what you are asking is how can it be detected after birth, the answer depends on what they are testing. If they test the baby's first stool (meconium) it will basically be a record of months of exposure. If urine, 2-5 d.

Pain killers and meth and pregnancy. My friend stopped at 5 months pregnant is that still going to cause problems?

Pain killers and meth and pregnancy. My friend stopped at 5 months pregnant is that still going to cause problems?

Yes, most likely.: Meth, is a drug that is toxic to the heart, kidneys, brain, and spinal cord. And the baby is developing these. Infants born can have low tolerance for touch, light, noise. And they can have learning, and behavioral problems that can last long term...

My longtime childhood friend is currently 26 weeks pregnant She has been using meth on and off her whole pregnancy! She wants to know if she stops now if it will show in the babies system when delivered?

My longtime childhood friend is currently 26 weeks pregnant She has been using meth on and off her whole pregnancy! She wants to know if she stops now if it will show in the babies system when delivered?

If I look: If she stops, it is healthier for her & the baby may actually survive the pregnancy. If mom draws attention to herself by being a known user, having drugie friends visit or for other reasons the Child & Family Services people have her on their radar she will have trouble. I can find evidence of any drug exposure in baby back to about 20 wks. If she gets clean & stays clean they may not look.

It was the fifth day of my period that we had sex he ejaculated in me he smokes weed and he's had a history of doing meth wat my chances of pregnancy?

Very small: Your period is the least likely time to get pregnant as that is when the uterine lining is sloughing off. You are most fertile during the middle of your cycle, approve day 14 when you ovulate. See attached chart. Better question is this the man you want to father your kids? Use protection and birth control.

Drugs and pregnancy: Refrain from doing any other drugs. Tell your OB the truth and get help now. Crack as we know is very addictive and you will need help to be clean for the remainder of the pregnancy. Good luck.
