My gyno said that adenomyosis is nothing to worry about and it won't cause any fertility problems. Is this correct or not?

Probably correct: Adenomyosis is invasion of the muscle wall of the uterus with the glands that normally grow and shed each month. While it most likely will lead to heavier and more painful cycles, it is unlikely to affect fertility. At the age of 18, it is very unlikely that you have adenomyosis. ...Read more

Can adenomyosis and ovarian cyst cause each other to feel worse?

Can adenomyosis and ovarian cyst cause each other to feel worse?

Adenolyosis: Adenomyosis is an invasion of uterine muscle with cells which line the uterus: these cells will bleed at the onset of both ovulation (briefly) and your regular cycle. Adenomyosis is similar to endometriosis, and causes cramping and discomfort. An ovarian cyst stretches the capsule of the ovary and will cause one sided pain while it exists. Most will spontaniously break, unrelated to adenomyosis. ...Read more

Have had 4 full periods in the last 8 weeks. Complex cyst in 1 ovary, endometriosis, adenomyosis. Can cervical problems cause periods to come earlier?

Have had 4 full periods in the last 8 weeks. Complex cyst in 1 ovary, endometriosis, adenomyosis. Can cervical problems cause periods to come earlier?

No, see doctor: The cervix doesn't really have a role in period bleeding or abnormal bleeding - that comes from uterine issues like fibroids or adenomyosis, or hormonal causes. The cervix can bleed from trauma or lesions in the cervix or cervical cancer, but it is not period bleeding. If you have had 4 episodes of bleeding in 8 weeks, you need to see a doctor for evaluation and treatment options. ...Read more

With adenomyosis i get labor type cramps and my period will stop while I have these cramps. Then it will start and cramping stops. What's the cause?

Hormones: Adenomyosis is regulated by your hormones, it's a condition whereby glands lining uterus migrate into muscle layers of uterus causing excess bleeding and pain. The stop/start that you describe is normal, i don't see anything concerning about that. Have you tried hormones to help with cramping/pain. A lot of hysterectomies are done for adenomyosis. Good luck, i feel for you. ...Read more

What causes a cystic lining in the uterine wall? One dr said its pcos & another said it was adenomyosis. Are either accurate? Do i need a 3rd opinion?

What causes a cystic lining in the uterine wall? One dr said its pcos & another said it was adenomyosis. Are either accurate? Do i need a 3rd opinion?

Depends: The lining of the uterus is increased/thickened by estrogen. Pcos is a condition where pt's produce too much estrogen, and the lining can become overthickened causing heavy/irreg periods. Adenomyosis is more common in women who have had csections or are a little older. A cystic lining is concerning, and should be evaluated with biopsy or d;c to make sure there are no precancerous changes. ...Read more

Does endometriosis and adenomyosis cause bloating and weight gain?My lower stomach makes me look pregnant.

Does endometriosis and adenomyosis cause bloating and weight gain?My lower stomach makes me look pregnant.

Common influence: Endometriosis and adenomyosis do not cause bloating and weight gain but the hormones that stimulate them do. The progesterone of the 2nd half of the menstrual cycle causes these changes coincidentally. We already feel yucky during this time but to add the discomfort of endometriosis on top of all this hardly seems fair. If you are not TTC, then OCPs for cycle control may help. ...Read more
