Need to wean off of Risperdal and replace with Abilify (aripiprazole). Should I take both at the same time while reducing Risperdal?
Yes: I recommend a two week cross taper where you take 1/2 of your Risperdal for one week and then take 1/2 every other day for one week then stop. In the meantime, continue to take your full abilify (aripiprazole) dose. You may have some break thru symptoms and should be monitored by a physician. ...Read more
Hi there Doc . How long would it take to wean off 1mg abilify (aripiprazole) and how would this be done . Have you had any patients successfully come off abilify (aripiprazole).Tha?
It depends: Upon why you’re taking it, and why you need to wean off of it. Tapering off 1 MG abilify (aripiprazole) should not pose a problem, provided there is an alternative medication that can take its place that will control your symptoms if needed, and with minimal side effects. Please discuss with your prescriber. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
The medication called Abilify (aripiprazole) - can it cause seizures and low white blood cell count - what happens when you wean off the medication?
Abilify (aripiprazole) side effects: It can cause seizures in less than 1% of people taking it. Lowered white blood cell count has also been reported but even more rarely. If you slowly taper it under the supervision of your md, there should be little problem. Of course recurrence of the symptoms for which you are taking it could occur. Also, since it affects serotonin symptoms of serotonin discontinuation could occur - even later. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Getting Abilify (aripiprazole) side effects two days after i stopped? Can this happen? I have akathisia
Yes it can happen: Abilify (aripiprazole) has a long elimination half-life: 75 hours for Aripiprazole and 94 hours for dehydro-aripirazole (metabolite), respectively. Since it takes 5 half lives for a medication to be mostly eliminated from your system, you will definitely still have Abilify (aripiprazole) in you for much longer than 2 days after your last dose. More like 375 - 470 hours, or 15 - 19 days. Talk with your doctor, please. ...Read more
I was wondering what would happen if i quit taking Abilify (aripiprazole) and lamictal for personal reasons?

The greates risk of suicide occurs when peole go from mania or hypomania to depression. I'd discuss this with your caregivers before doing it. Make sense? ...Read more
