What Happens If You Take 2 Zyrtec
Not likely: Zyrtec (cetirizine) is a new generation with a good safety profile. While the usual dose of zyrtec is 10 mg once a day for allergies, there is scientific evidence that higher doses even up to 4x the usual dose is helpful for severe hives. So, two doses of zyrtec is unlikely to cause significant side effects except perhaps a little drowsy. ...Read more
Sedation: That dose of zyrtec is going to be very sedating. This defeats the purpose of taking zyrtec instead of benadryl (diphenhydramine). That level of sedation will make you a drowsy --> dangerous driver. Have you tried Loratadine or allegra? Do you use Flonase or something like it? Do you regularly flush your nose with a saline/ baking soda solution? ...Read more

What can I do if my allergies are really working on me, can I take two zyrtec (cetirizine) when one doesn't work?
I am on Singulair 10 MG daily and Zyrtec. I have forgotten both for the past two days and just took a Singulair. Is it ok to take Benadryl as well?
For a cough that has been lingering for nearly two weeks after a cold : I take zyrtec daily, if it was allergies would nasacort (triamcinolone) help?
Bronchospasm: Sometimes you can have residual bronchospasm after an upper respiratory infection for weeks after you feel better. Using cough lozenges may help, over the counter cough suppressants at night to help sleep, or talking with your doctor to see if an inhaler may be helpful until your cough improves over the course of the next couple of weeks. Doubtful Nasacort (triamcinolone) will help with the cough. ...Read more

I have been taking Zyrtec right in the morning since two days. It has removed sneezing etc, but I feel sleepy and lethargic during day. When to take?
Under an allergist supervision I take two zyrtecs (cetirizine) in the morning with a ranitadine. At nite I take singular and ranitadine and cyproheptadine. Can I take two zyrtecs (cetirizine) at night instead of the ranitadine and cyproheptadine?
Zyrtec (cetirizine) dose: Yes, you can take more zyrtec (cetirizine) total per day if you tolerate it well. When patients have severe urticaria, we often have them take even more than 4 zyrtec (cetirizine) tablets daily. The initial studies with zyrtec (cetirizine) used doses of 10-40 mg, or up to 4 tablets at a time. You can still take the ranitidine and montelukast at night also, if they help you. They do not affect the dose of antihistamine. ...Read more
Is it OK to take 180 mg Allegra in AM and 10m Zyrtec AND Xyzal (levocetirizine) at dinner? Allergist said to take TWO Allegra, but I'm worried it's too much
Mixing antihistamine: Generally, it's best to follow one's doctor's instructions. If not wanting to take Allegra twice a day, and wanting to add a different antihistamine such as Zyrtec or Xyzal (levocetirizine), (levocetirizine) it is probably enough to take Zyrtec or Xyzal (levocetirizine) (one of them instead of both of them). Zyrtec and Xyzal (levocetirizine) are very similar. The makers of Xyzal (levocetirizine) say it is more effective than Zyrtec, but they are similar drugs. ...Read more

DON'T!: The maximum clinical dose of Zyrtec (cetirizine) is 10mg per day. 50mg is therefore 5X the recommended daily dose! You will most likely be fine if you did, you should call the Poison control # and drink a lot of fluids, . but if you make a habit of it you run the risk of damaging your liver. In a 2 year study of rats that were given higher doses of Zrytec it revealed increased Liver tumors in the those rats! ...Read more
Nasal congestion?: I would suggest talking to your doctor if otc antihistamines are not helpful. I will mention that antihistamines tend to be more helpful for itching and sneezing and less helpful for nasal congestion. Nasal antihistamines and nasal steroids tend to be more effective for nasal congestion due to allergic rhinitis (allergies). ...Read more

I accidentally took an expired (18 months ago!) Zyrtec pill. Should I take the correct (unexpired) one nowbad well or should I wait 24 hours?
Wait: Medication can lose it's effectiveness past expiration date, but I would not expect it to not be effective at all; especially if only 18 months expired. It will not be harmful at all that you took an expired zyrtec. It will probably still be almost as effective as it was prior to expiration, so I would just wait and take a new one at your normal time the next day. Hope this helps! ...Read more
