Dialysis (Definition)

Hemodialysis remove wastes and excess water from the blood by circulating blood outside the body through an external filter, called a dialyzer. Aside of injection what is the food that can help to increase hemoglobin because sometimes i miss to inject after dialysis.

Aside of injection what is the food that can help to increase hemoglobin because sometimes i miss to inject after dialysis.

Anemia: Anemia in kidney failure is due to lack of erythropoeitin, which is injected with each HD session. It can be taken subcutaneously once a week. Ask about that possibility. Iron deficiency contributes to anemia. Foods rich in iron may help but typically dialysis patients require iron supplements. There is no natural stimulant or replacement of erythropoetin. ...Read more

Hi my husband has dialysis 3times a week, monwedand fri. He has had a dental treatment and feeling unwell and decided to miss today. Will he be ok?

Not a good idea: The best plan is to share his symptoms with the people at the dialysis center so they can evaluate his feeling unwell. Skipping treatment may just make him feel worse and poses risk to his well being. Get him back in touch with the center to schedule a session right away. ...Read more

Could you tell me what happens to a person psysically when they stop dialysis?

Dialysis cessation: There are two reasons why a patient would stop dialysis. The first is that the person had acute renal failure and recovered his renal function, ending his need for dialysis. If the person has end-stage-renal-disease and he stops dialysis, he will get progressivly weaker, may have nausea and vomiting and die of fluid overload or hyperkalemia. The time to death is variable. ...Read more

Complications include blood loss, both rapid and slow, dangerous blood pressure drops, reactions to the fluid or membranes used, and increased risks of infection. While dialysis is generally safe, why risk it if no need? ...Read more

Is there anything I should be doing right now to assist me in preparation for dialysis when the time comes? (the do's and don't s ). Thank you.

Yes: If you have renal insufficiency ("pre-dialysis" kidney disease) you should consider getting a fistula placed. Since you have some klidney function you are a better surgical candidate, will heal better, and can get a native vein fistula (the best kind). Don't wait until you start dialysis because you may need a catheter (which is not good). ...Read more
