Low vitamin D: Hi. Humans make our own vitamin D if we get adequate sunlight exposure; we live and work indoors, and few of us can make enough on our own. Milk is fortified with vitamin D...and cod liver oil...if you're into that sort of thing. Vitamin D3 supplements are cheap and work perfectly; they are fat-soluble vitamins, and best taken with a meal. Good luck! ...Read more

Vitamin D: Low vitamin d it is below about 20. Research shows that raising your vitamin d level can boost immunity, elevate mood, and more. The darker your skin, the lower vitamin d can be because we make it through the sun on our skin. About 60% of whites in us are low, about 75% latino low, and maybe 85-90% african americans low. Experts say between 50-80 is optimal. 20s or 30s is minimal. ...Read more

A recent study suggests that it may represent something more concerning such as inflammation that can lead to more serious illness. The same study showed that treating the low vit. Take more!: I have no idea how much vit d you are taking but most adults need to take 5-8, 000 iu/day to achieve optimal levels and if you're low it is safe and reasonable to try 10, 000 iu/day. Only take d3, not d2. It's best to take with 5-10, 000 iu of vit a and 1 mg of vit k too as they work as a team. Unrelated: Hi. Low potassium (K) and low vitamin D are mechanistically unrelated. Is your K reproducibly low? Do you have high blood pressure? If you do, that and the low K may be related. The low vitamin D is just that most of us don't get enough sunlight to make our own, so you need dietary supplements. NONE of it is related to Candida! ...Read more

Why do you ask?: This question can't be answered, and anything you read online is at best "pop" impressions. Nobody even has criteria for "undifferentiated connective tissue disease" that everybody agrees on. If you're vitamin D deficient, and a great many people are, for everybody's sake take a sensible supplement. This common deficiency accounts for much of the bone pain that folks may think is CTD. ...Read more

Ok: It's a standard dose. Recheck level in 12 weeks and follow your doctor advice. What you are taking is vitamin d2. The over the counter vit d3 is better absorbed but some physicians prefer d2 first to quickly get your level up. Make sure to follow up with your doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
