Not likely: Your gastric symptoms should be treated by medications to reduce acid in the stomach. Only severe hiatal hernia symptoms need surgical repair. Most of them can be managed by lifestyle changes (weight loss, cessation of tobacco and alcohol, regular exercise etc). Gym should be fine. Hopefully you have had an upper endoscopy and xray studies to make an accurate diagnosis. ...Read more

Heartburn for years. PPI drugs dont help. Have small Hiatel hernia. CDiff 10 mnths ago. Morning heartburn and can't get rid of it. On 300mg of Zantac (ranitidine).

Small hiatus hernia. No GERD, heartburn. What are the chances of this gettin bigger with time and give me symptoms ? Anything to do to prevent HH? Ty

May not be a problem: Many people have hiatal hernias without ever having problems. Anything that increases your intraabdominal pressure a lot, such as doing strenuous activity or coughing a lot, or obesity, can cause the hernia to get bigger. Decreasing those activities will reduce your risk of symptoms. Once you have the hernia, you can't prevent it. It won't resolve on its own. ...Read more
