What happens if I start having contractions but I am not dilating?

What happens if I start having contractions but I am not dilating?

Cervix effaces/thins: The cervix is normally thick through most of pregnancy, and usually many uterine contractions and physiologic changes are required to thin it (especially prior to the first delivery). It is important, however, for women to record contractions and keep their obs informed because an examination of the cervix by a trained provider can best determine extent of dilatation of the cervix/onset of labor. ...Read more

If not, then head on up to your hospital to be evaluated. Sometimes contractions are just annoying and sometimes they cause cervical change. The only way to know the difference for sure is to be evaluated at your labor & delivery. ...Read more

I am having period like cramps and I am 36 weeks pregnant but when i go to labor and delivery thy say I am just dehydrated could it be real labor pain?

YOu should: Be discussing this with your OB ! the only way to tell is to get on monitor either in your ob's offcie or the labor room, if u were my pt and u are not in labor i would offer to induce u at 39 weeks the earliest time it is acceptable to do an elective induction, i frequently do that and my pts are so happy they don't have to suffer any more, it is safe and works 99% of the time when I do it. ...Read more

Weight issues (too high or too low) can cause abnormal bleeding. Please be sure your pap smear is up to date also. If this continues you need a complete medical evaluation. If you have pain, vomiting, or light-headedness, then you would need to be seen as an emergency. ...Read more
