Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

What happens if I get pregnant while I still have the progesterone IUD in place?

What happens if I get pregnant while I still have the progesterone IUD in place?

Depends on LMP: We usually recommend removal. While removal might cause you to lose the pregnancy, leaving the IUD increases the risk for severe intrauterine infection. As well, the progesterone, like depo-provera or norplant, (levonorgestrel) might increase the risk of a tubal pregnancy, therefore an ultrasound to determine where the pregnancy resides is as important as removal of the iud. ...Read more

What are the complications if i don't remove mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD after the 5th anniversary? If i won't replace it with new one - can it be left inside awhile?

No guarantees: That it will still be effective at preventing pregnancy; and increased risk for ectopic pregnancy if conception occurs, and risks to baby if pregnancy in the uterus occurs with an iud in place; also: risks of it becoming 'scarred' in place, and being very difficult to remove; as always, risks of infections (abscesses in the fallopian tubes); risks of it poking into the wall of the uterus with pain. ...Read more

What are the chances of my wife getting pregnant, she has had the Mirena IUD for the last 6 years and not willing to take it out. What I am looking for her to get pregnant so I am waiting when the IUD looses its effectiveness? Once she gets pregnant with

What are the chances of my wife getting pregnant, she has had the Mirena IUD for the last 6 years and not willing to take it out. What I am looking for her to get pregnant so I am waiting when the IUD looses its effectiveness? Once she gets pregnant with

Pregnancy with IUD: Sounds like you both are not on the same page. I recommend that you see a marriage counselor to resolve this because no matter what happens one of you will resent the other (more). Pregnancy can happen after 5 years but sometimes the presence of the IUD, no matter how old, can prevent pregnancy. If she were to conceive, IUD removal can cause a miscarriage. ...Read more

I have the paragard iud. Some woman have said if your husband cums inside you the sperm will shoot out right away. Will this always happen?

I have the paragard iud. Some woman have said if your husband cums inside you the sperm will shoot out right away. Will this always happen?

In a word, no...: "Some women", as well intentioned as I'm sure they are, don't seem to understand how the IUD works. The paragard is a copper IUD that creates an inflammatory reaction in the uterus that is toxic to sperm. They don't survive. I'm not sure what "shoot out right away" would even suggest, but it doesn't work in a way that you would notice anything. ...Read more

What are the odds of getting pregnant with the IUD mirena (levonorgestrel) i took a pregnancy test and it came out positive twice. What should I do?

What are the odds of getting pregnant with the IUD mirena (levonorgestrel) i took a pregnancy test and it came out positive twice. What should I do?

See a GYN MD now: Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud's, like all iud's, prevent pregnancies by preventing implantation of a already fertilized egg into the lining of the uterus.(endometrium) two positive tests indicate that you are pregnant, but the question is where?.. The uterus or elsewhere.(tube) see a md to sort this out as tubal pregnancies are common when iud's fail. ...Read more

My implanon expired July 29th haven't had the chance to get it replaced, so should I be worried that it doesn't work or the chances of me getting preg?

Decreased effectiven: The implanon does not just stop being effective at the end of 3 years. It provides greater than 99% coverage until 3 years. Its effects taper after that. Some women have coverage that lasts well into the 4th year, but its effects are tapering and you should not rely on it. ...Read more

What to do if i could feel the strings of my mirena (levonorgestrel) iudhelp!?

What to do if i could feel the strings of my mirena (levonorgestrel) iudhelp!?

Depends: Its ok if you can feel the strings. Some Women feel for them monthly for reassurance that the IUD is still there. They shouldn't be felt near the vaginal opening as this could indicate that the IUD had fallen out of the uterus. They are normally quite high up near the top of the vagina. If your partner can feel the strings during intercourse, the string may need to be cut shorter. ...Read more
