Possibly: Carpal tunnel syndrome can cause hand and wrist pain with weakness and numbness to the thumb, index and ring fingers. This condition can also be associated with swelling and I have seen this in several patients. You can get an evaluation by a hand surgeon who can perform an exam and order some basic diagnostic test to determine the cause. ...Read more

Occult fracture?: Wrist pain can be caused by a number of things including a missed or occult fracture, irritated tendons, nerve injury or irritation, arthritis, or bursitis. Many of these things can be treated symptomatically and resolve on their own, but some things like an occult or missed fracture may require additional evaluation and treatment. Referral to an orthopaedic surgeon or hand surgeon would help. ...Read more

Hi I have caparl tunnel- like symptoms in my left hand. Do these symptoms appear with other conditions, or is it almost assuredly carpal tunnel?

Yes, likely CTS.: If your symptoms involve only the median nerve, it is likely carpal tunnel but testing with Nerve Conduction Studies or Electromyography would help differentiate among other conditions that affect the nerves that originate from your back or from your muscles themselves. Approximately 65% of patients have bilateral symptoms of Carpal Tunnel. ...Read more

Sometimes it can be an internal problem not external where tissue scarred down or a vein is to large etc etc....and it puts pressure on a nerve. The diagnosis if made by Emg/NCV would be correct. ...Read more

Job related: Unless you have some clearly identifiable factor other than your job that is contributing to your carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), you will have to look into a different type of work. The wrist pain is most likely related to the CTS. You need treatment now as untreated CTS can lead to permanent nerve damage. Discuss with your doctor whether you need braces, injections, or surgery. ...Read more

What could be causing numbness and weakness in my left hand? I do have carpal tunnel syndrome, but this seems different, not as much pain, but a lot less sensation in my left hand.

Actually,: Actually, it's a myth that carpal tunnel syndrome is pain, particularly pain with typing. The hallmark symptom of carpal tunnel syndrome (cts) is numbness. Numbness in the thumb, index, long and half of the ring finger. The current best evidence is that cts is genetic (you we're going to get it no matter what you did) and--in my opinion--inevitably progressive. I warn my patients that surgery is necessary eventually to prevent numbness and weakness that it is permanent. Luckily the disease is very slowly progressive, so you should have some time to sort this out. ...Read more

Sharp pain on left thumb & wrist & spread to forearm which makes it feel very heavy and numb occur most night. Is it carpal tunnel or nerve compression?

Could be CTS: It sounds like it could be carpal tunnel syndrome (cts)which is a type of nerve compression, but this will often affect other fingers rather than just the thumb. Is it on the lateral or outside of the thumb? It could be a tenosynovitis as well. If you look up a test called a finklestein test, you can check yourself and see if its that. If you have neck pain, it could also be a radiculitis. ...Read more

Pain in thumb C6: There's an entity called a C6 radiculopathy which may explain the isolated pain to that digit as well as numbness. Also, something called TENOSYNOVITIS could explain the thumb. Hand spasm on left hand outer side, blood test normal, not dehydrated. Carpal tunnel released a yr ago. Eat a healthy diet. What can this be?

Ulnar nerve: There are two main nerves to the hand. The median nerve controls feeling to the thumb, index and middle fingers. The ulnar nerve controls feeling to the small finger and little finger side of the ring finger. It also controls most of the small muscles in the hand. Carpal tunnel surgery helps the median nerve. You could have entrapment of the ulnar nerve at the elbow. Get it checked out. ...Read more

Patience: It could very well be that it may just take more time. You can get better from the arthroplasty up to 6-8 months. So if you are slowly getting better, you will likely continue to improve. If you are not getting better, or are even getting worse, you need to let your surgeon know. ...Read more

I was diagnoised with left elbow tendonitis with degenerative joint disease. Can this cause carpal tunnel in my wrist?

I was diagnoised with left elbow tendonitis with degenerative joint disease. Can this cause carpal tunnel in my wrist?

It depends.: It depends on whether your elbow tendonitis is related to you degenerative joint disease, or to tendonitis at the wrist or hand. The muscles and tendons used by the wrist and hand begin at the elbow attachments sites. If the inflammation extends into the wrists, especially along the palmar aspect, then you may have symptoms of tendonitis at the radial elbow and carpal tunnel as well. ...Read more

The last few days my right hand on the left side on my wrist has been sore. Could it be carpal tunnel or more a strain. Fingers are fine?

Varies: It does not sound like carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a compression of the median nerve in the wrist and usually causes pain or numbness into the thumb, index, and middle fingers. I would not hesitate to be seen if it does not get better. An exam and appropriate studies can usually determine the cause. ...Read more

Carpal tunnel endio one year ago Doc said scar tissue on nerve left hand and it will go away, told me this in Oct my Primary doc took xray said fine hand goes numb, feels weird can this be fixed?

Depends: It depends on why your hand goes numb. Sounds like you need an emg/NCS to assess your median nerve (the nerve that travels through and is compressed in carpal tunnel). Ideally this would be compared to a study performed preoperatively. That can assess for recurrent slowing, possibly from scar tissue. Ultrasound is another diagnostic option ...Read more

Is an aching left arm and left leg a sign of peripheral neuropathy, hiv, carpal tunnel or pinched nerve?

Depends: This can be a systemic disease process (neuropathy, hiv) affecting multiple nerves at once. Carpal tunnel affect the hand specifically, not the arm. You can have two pinched nerves possibly, but one tries to explain symptoms by the most simple explanation. Consider spinal cord issues, which would affect arm and leg simultaneously. ...Read more
