What Happens If Carpal Tunnel Is Left Untreated
Possibly: Carpal tunnel syndrome can cause hand and wrist pain with weakness and numbness to the thumb, index and ring fingers. This condition can also be associated with swelling and I have seen this in several patients. You can get an evaluation by a hand surgeon who can perform an exam and order some basic diagnostic test to determine the cause. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I hurt my left wrist over the summer. 1 dr believes it might be carpal tunnel, but my primary doesn't believe that's the case. What could b causing it?
Occult fracture?: Wrist pain can be caused by a number of things including a missed or occult fracture, irritated tendons, nerve injury or irritation, arthritis, or bursitis. Many of these things can be treated symptomatically and resolve on their own, but some things like an occult or missed fracture may require additional evaluation and treatment. Referral to an orthopaedic surgeon or hand surgeon would help. ...Read more

Hi I have caparl tunnel- like symptoms in my left hand. Do these symptoms appear with other conditions, or is it almost assuredly carpal tunnel?
Yes, likely CTS.: If your symptoms involve only the median nerve, it is likely carpal tunnel but testing with Nerve Conduction Studies or Electromyography would help differentiate among other conditions that affect the nerves that originate from your back or from your muscles themselves. Approximately 65% of patients have bilateral symptoms of Carpal Tunnel. ...Read more

Aching pain in left wrist I have carpal tunnel in both hands and I'm a cashier so I'm constantly using my hands?
Job related: Unless you have some clearly identifiable factor other than your job that is contributing to your carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), you will have to look into a different type of work. The wrist pain is most likely related to the CTS. You need treatment now as untreated CTS can lead to permanent nerve damage. Discuss with your doctor whether you need braces, injections, or surgery. ...Read more

Other things such as arthritis at th base of the thumb, or irritation from prolonged dependency on splints may be suspect as well. By speaking to your surgeon directly they can determine if anything else needs to be done. Can tendinitis surgery cause carpal tunnel in my left wrist. I just got carpal tunnel surgery on my right? I'm feeling the same symptoms of it on left
What could be causing numbness and weakness in my left hand? I do have carpal tunnel syndrome, but this seems different, not as much pain, but a lot less sensation in my left hand.
Actually,: Actually, it's a myth that carpal tunnel syndrome is pain, particularly pain with typing. The hallmark symptom of carpal tunnel syndrome (cts) is numbness. Numbness in the thumb, index, long and half of the ring finger. The current best evidence is that cts is genetic (you we're going to get it no matter what you did) and--in my opinion--inevitably progressive. I warn my patients that surgery is necessary eventually to prevent numbness and weakness that it is permanent. Luckily the disease is very slowly progressive, so you should have some time to sort this out. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Could be CTS: It sounds like it could be carpal tunnel syndrome (cts)which is a type of nerve compression, but this will often affect other fingers rather than just the thumb. Is it on the lateral or outside of the thumb? It could be a tenosynovitis as well. If you look up a test called a finklestein test, you can check yourself and see if its that. If you have neck pain, it could also be a radiculitis. ...Read more

I have carpal tunnel in both of my wrists, lately my hands have been going numb quicker then usual. My left thumb hurts after it's numb. Why?
Pain in thumb C6: There's an entity called a C6 radiculopathy which may explain the isolated pain to that digit as well as numbness. Also, something called TENOSYNOVITIS could explain the thumb.
