Friend 45 yr old ultrasound swollen spleen pancreas and liver blood work fine liver area hurts what are the possibilities of cause ?

Possibly from liver: If there is splenomegaly, one cause would be congested blood backing up from the liver venous circulation. The GI or hepatologist need to be involved to find the cause, benign or from other causes need to ruled out. Blood work may not show causes but a team with radiologist, internist, gastroenterologist need to look at your friend in the whole to evaluate causes and recommend course of action ...Read more

Hematologist: You should see a hematologist. That level of anemia is serious, an an enlarged spleen is also indicative of a problem related in your blood system. Anemia is usually due to bleeding, impaired production, or hemolysis. Hemolysis means abnormal consumption of red cells in your spleen or blood vessels. There are blood tests and ultrasound studies to investigate further. ...Read more

I had mono but went to the doctor and all my bloods were fine. My spleen is still slightly swollen. Can I drink alcohol?

I had mono but went to the doctor and all my bloods were fine. My spleen is still slightly swollen. Can I drink alcohol?

You decide: Alcohol is detoxified by liver cells along with other body wastes. Mono tends to create some liver injury/sensitivity which increases the toxic effect of alcohol on the liver.Death of liver cells can & does occur sometimes in this setting. The liver can re-grow cells & recover, but since you only have one it would be reasonable to take care of it by delaying or reducing alcohol during your recovery ...Read more

I've had UTI test, blood work, all normal. I still feel like i'm sitting on a bike seat all the time, fatigue, testicular pain, swollen spleen, what?

I've had UTI test, blood work, all normal. I still feel like i'm sitting on a bike seat all the time, fatigue, testicular pain, swollen spleen, what?

Testicular pain: If the urine culture is negatve and on physical exam it doesn't look like protatitis you may have pudendal neuralgia. The pudendal nerve inervates the scrotum, penis, perineum, and pelvi floor muscles. Some of the symptoms include burning, stinging, irritating pain around the genitals. Painful erection and penetration, a sensation pain of a fullness in the rectum like you were sitting on something. ...Read more

Spleen 2cm swollen. Normal blood work. Had mono 8 months ago.
Glands a swollen on neck but have sore throat.
?

Spleen enlargement: after mono usually resolves after several months, but recurrent viral infections can cause delayed return to normal size. An ultra sound can give a better measure of the true size in contrast to palpation below the rib margin. Other conditions can cause enlarged spleen as well, so further blood work may be indicated if splenomegaly persists. ...Read more

Spleen 2cm swollen. Normal blood work. Had mono 8 months ago.
Glands a swollen on neck but have sore throat. Can mono re-activate?

Insignificant: I would consider your findings insignificant in the scheme of things. There is more than one agent that can trigger a mono like syndrome & that amount of speanic change is not that impressive, whether found by a good physical exam or other means. The CDC debunked the idea of a "chronic" mono more than a decade ago. You likely acquired another viral illness that will pass. ...Read more

Blood work, normal. Ct pelvis, normal. Swollen spleen, testicular pain, hemorrhoids, weakness, fatigue, eye pain, unintentional weight loss, back pain?

Need more work up: None of the things you mention should be related to eye pain in my experience. See an ophthalmologist to explore things that could be related to the eye pain part, but you really need a reason for the swollen spleen, testicular pain and weight loss more than just a ct scan and blood work. Every city has what i call the "zebra" doctor. We have a saying that the thunder of hooves should be horses. ...Read more

Such a person can take a history from you and then examine your body. What to do if I have mono, how do I know if my liver/spleen is swollen?

Found on exam: If you know how to look for it the liver edge can be detected below its normal position and the spleen could be felt on the left side of the abdomen. I know of few people who could realistically judge either on themselves. The physician can determine this on physical exam or ultrasound. ...Read more
