It can be associated with constipation and also spontaneous perforation which is when it is diagnosed. WHat did your doc sa: Depends on what type of cyst it is, how big it is, whether it is sus for cancer or precancer does it look like it has consumed the entire ovary, i would have all your ?S answerd to your satisfaction before surg- that is what i always do with my pts so speak with your doc again before surgery! ...Read more

Not a problem: Of course you don't want both ovaries removed at age 38 as that could harm your heart and bones. Cysts at age 38 are most commonly benign and doctor can perform a "cystectomy" rather than an "oophrectomy". Remove just the cyst if it causes pain or is of concern for the doctor, and leave the rest of the ovary. Unless strong family history ovarian cancer, then ovary should be spared at all cost. ...Read more

Depends: Sometimes it's hard to remove a cyst without removing the entire ovary especially if the cyst is large (greater than 6 cm). However, if you only have one ovary, preserving your ovary should be attempted. Discuss this further with your doctor. ...Read more
