The best source of: Vitamin d3 is to be in the sun each day w/arms ; legs exposed. That doesn't work in the winter. Barring this, supplementing w/d3 capsules is good. Unusual response: This is a very unusual reaction to Vit D. You are more likely to be reacting to the other ingredients in the supplement so look for a pure Vit D3 with minimal additives. Most adults need 5-8000 iu/day to get optimal levels of 50-80. You probably don't need calcium unless your diet is low in calcium but it is wise to take Vit K with Vit D. That means their molecule looking completely differently in space and all of them go together.That is very very expensive to produce commercially and does not happen.That's why you can not have the wanted benefit. It depends on:: All adults need to take 5-8000 iu/day of Vitamin D3 in fall and winter months as we can not get any D from the sun (unless in the deep South). We can get adequate D from spending time in the mid-day sun in spring and summer, but if you don't get much sun or use sunscreen then it is reasonable to take D year-round.
