My vagina is itchy and irritated. I was massaging it due to the itchiness and it began to bleed. What do I do? I was just treated for chlamydia earlier this week. I am also on the birth control, Depo-Provera shot. Could this be any factors as well?

It : It sounds like you may have developed a yeast infection. This commonly occurs after taking antibiotics. When a yeast infection is present the vaginal tissue is inflammed and if rubbed can bleed easily. Try an over the counter yeast infection cream and insert it into vagina as directed. You can also rub some of the cream on the outside inflammed area. If this treatment fails schedule a visit with your doctor. Take care. ...Read more

Is my baby only exposed to the herpes virus by passing through the birth canal, not while it is in the womb?

Is my baby only exposed to the herpes virus by passing through the birth canal, not while it is in the womb?

No: The overwhelming majority of cases where herpes was passed from mom to baby happen at delivery as the baby passes through the birth canal and comes into contact with virus being shed from the vaginal tissue. In rare cases though herpes can be passed during the pregnancy while still in the uterus. These are cases where the mom acquired her first exposure to herpes type 2 while pregnant. ...Read more

Okay so, I just found out that I might have an std (Chlamydia). I gave birth to my child a month ago.. How can this affect my child?? He seems and looks healthy however, I am very worried!

? Chlamydia ?: I am assuming that you bring the child to a doctor. Mention your concerns. If you had chlamydia at the time of delivery the child could have developed eye findings and that would have been noted and treated. The other presentation is that of pneumonia. Both of these conditions can be treated but you must must mention your concerns to the child's doctor and you and father get treated too pronto!! ...Read more

If your are infected with chlamydia, can that cause birth defects in the child? Even if i get treatment to cure it. Could it cause down syndrome?

If your are infected with chlamydia, can that cause birth defects in the child? Even if i get treatment to cure it. Could it cause down syndrome?

Only if untreated.: Chlamydia infection is of no risk to the fetus if treated properly (that includes your sexual partner). It has nothing to do with down syndrome. If left untreated or undiagnosed or recurrent at the time of delivery then ophthalmia neonatorum with trachoma can develop with severe consequences for the infant's eyesight. That's why Erythromycin ointment is applied to all newborns' eyes prophylactical. ...Read more

Could i be pregnant? Me and my husband are trying to have a baby, i stopped my birth control pills last month had a regular period, we had sex on my ovulated days which were from march 30-april 4 that same week my gynecologist told me i had chlamydia that

Hello. : Hello. You could still be pregnant if the HCG level was too low to trigger a positive on the home pregnancy test. In that situation, it is usually recommended that you retake it in a week or less. The chlamydia in and of itself is not likely to delay your period (if it is a new infection) however, things like stress (may because you have chlamydia) can cause you period to be delayed, or you could skip a month altogether. Take care. ...Read more

Someone who has chlamydia in the vagina not oral can pass it thru just oral sex to male how saliva or how if possible?

No false results NAAT. 4 neg tests/retests for chlamydia before/during pregnancy. Now 2 positive after birth no sex of any kind at all between how?

No false results NAAT. 4 neg tests/retests for chlamydia before/during pregnancy. Now 2 positive after birth no sex of any kind at all between how?

A few possibilities: It is hard when people have one positive and one negative result on a test. Possible interpretations are: 1. The neg tests were false and the + test is correct 2. The neg tests were true and the + test is incorrect 3. Both are correct and you acquired it between tests. You and your doctor who know you can determine that best course of action. Consider testing your partner. ...Read more

How can I get 4 negative chlamydia tests 2 different Dr/Labs before and during pregnancy and 2 positive after birth with no sex of any kind between?

Doesn't make sense: It's worth showing the actual lab tests to a doctor who can interpret everything-- a second opinion. Chlamydia is sexually transmitted so it doesn't make any sense here. I wonder if you had false negative tests initially either due to 'sampling error' or tests that weren't that accurate. The CDC recommends nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs) as the most sensitive. See an ID doc if you can. ...Read more

I had 2 negative tests for chlamydia during pregnancy & 2 positive tests a month after giving birth. How can this be with no sex at all between tests?

I had 2 negative tests for chlamydia during pregnancy & 2 positive tests a month after giving birth. How can this be with no sex at all between tests?

False test results?: Most likely the test(s) during pregnancy missed your infection. No lab tests are perfect, but false negative is more common than false positive. To be entirely safe, you and your husband (or other sex partners) should be treated for chlamydia. Your baby's pediatrician also should be told about your test result, so the baby can be checked and perhaps treated. ...Read more

Does chlamydia medicine affect birth control pills?

Does chlamydia medicine affect birth control pills?

Antibiotics: Antibiotics can affect birth control and possibly decrease their effectiveness to 97 or 98% from 99. So even though they are still very effective, I always recommend adding condoms to sex when on antibiotics as you do not want to be in the 1%. Best wishes. ...Read more

I got retested for chlamydia on Monday and it came back positive. Is it possible that my birth control interfered with the antibiotics in any way?

Antibiotics/OCP: Anything is possible but it is highly unlikely that your birth control affected the antiobiotic treatment for chlamydia. Usually we would think that you were not treated effectively or had possibly a reinfection. ...Read more

After being treated for chlamydia 2 months ago i started discharging yelli but i'm also on gionvi birth control no smell no nothing's just consirne?

Go see your doctor: I'm trying to figure out whether you're describing "jelly" or "yellow" discharge. The good news is that you're on birth control and there's no odor. But if you're concerned, best to go see your family doc to get checked out. I'm sure you know, but just in case, birth control prevents pregnancy, but not sexually transmitted infections. If you're not mutually monogamous, make him wear a condom. ...Read more
