I'm a smoker, and i can't quit smoking for very long, i always make excuses why I have to smoke, any help?
What have you tried?: A formal program helps keep you motivated and gives you lots of emotional support. Nicotine replacement therapy (patches, gum, lozenges) reduces withdrawal and should be tapered over 3 months or so. Prescribed medications like Chantix and zyban (bupropion) reduce both craving and withdrawal symptoms. Multiple attempts to quit are the rule, not the exception. Keep trying and you will succeed! ...Read more
Heavy nasal fluid after smoking hookah(sheesha). Is this the cause? I'm smoker and smoked hookah on that day.
Was a smoker for 2 months where i smoked 4 cigs a day. Now i quit smoking day 3 cold turkey, any tips on how to continue?
Distract yourself: You were a light smoker, but could still be dependent on nicotine. Plus the daily routine of having a cigarette can be habit-forming - a psychological way to keep you doing it. The key is to teach yourself to get through the day. Cravings can be like hunger pains - wait awhile and they go away! so, make a list of things you can do instead of smoke. If it's hard, nicotine gum or lozenge can help. ...Read more
Does smoking cigarettes improve your focus and memory? Btw i'm a non smoker and an aspiring architect. All architects smoke :p
No, but . . .: Long ago, even the cancer doctors smoked. It's just an addiction, so won't improve focus, memory, or anything else. But, once a person is addicted, his cravings will bother him constantly, until he gets his next smoke. That is why the addicted smokers need to smoke to bring their focus back up to normal (they've messed themselves up by getting addicted). One avoids that problem by never smoking. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Im a cigratte smoker. I smoke 1 cigratte in 1 week. I know it is very harmful. So i want to quit it. Please help me to stop smoking.
Cold turkey.: As far as quitting without any nicotine replacement, the cold turkey method is great. But plan it ahead of time. Pick a quit date in advance, maybe a meaningful date like a birthday or holiday, and gather people who are aware of your attempt that you can call upon for moral support if you start to falter. Good luck!! You smoke so little, should be pretty straight forward. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have quit smoking since more than a year and a half now, but I am always around smokers. How bad is it for me now second hand smoke? It bothers me.
You still smoke: Instead of smoking your own cigarettes, you now smoke other people's smoke and burning chemicals. Second hand smoke is just as dangerous as as smoking. The only sensible way dealing with it is avoidance. If you can't, at least limit your stay to the shortest time. Also, try to meet people where there is no smoke, or outside. An air purifier may help some in a closed space, or open windows. ...Read more
How can I prevent gum disease if i smoke? I’ve heard that smokers get gum disease more than other people. I can’t seem to quit smoking, so i’d like to know how to prevent gum disease. Should i brush more often. Is there a mouthwash that will help?
Great oral hygiene: Smokers can have 4x as much gum disease as those who do not smoke. Smoking is a large contributing factor to gum disease, but so is bacterial plaque. Meticulous oral hygiene will help decrease the amount of plaque and bacteria in your mouth and may help to slow or prevent gum disease. Mouth washes can be a nice adjunct to brushing and flossing, but it does not take the place of either. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers
Hello. I have a lump that's been in my mouth under my teeth in the soft gum part. Some days its inflated, other days, its "deflated" with a rough patch there. I'm a smoker and I smoke on average one pack per day but I've only been smoking for three years.
See Oral Surgeon: Best to get this checked out. Typically we do not see oral cancer with areas that inflate and deflate. Might be a salivary duct blockage or a chronic abscess. Might also be two things simultaneously. As a smoker you are at a much increased risk for oral cancer. Stay smart and get the apt with the Oral Surgeon. Good Luck. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers
