What Drugs Can I Not Take With Gas X
I take gas x every day. They told me that I may have gastritis... And if gas x is a drug, isn't it bad every day?
Not necessarily bad: Gasx is simethicone, which works on gas. Not necessarily bad. However, if you have gastritis, you probably need to deal with the acidity as well. Acid buffers or blockers would help the gastritis greatly. Buffers such as antacids like maalox, mylanta, tums, etc work well. Acid blockers like zantac (ranitidine) or Pepcid (histamine blockers) or prilosec/ Prevacid (proton pump inhibitors) are very effective. ...Read more
After eating: Simethicone is an anti-foaming agent that allows gas bubbles to pass more quickly. Simethicone does not prevent formation of gas bubbles. Based on this action, it would be better to take after you eat when symptomatic, as the directions on the package indicate. ...Read more
Decreased pain: Gas build-up in the bowels can make the belly bigger. The ribs line the upper part of the abdomen and can get pushed apart when the "belly blows up". Rib muscles hold the ribs together, so if the ribs are being stretched apart, a strained muscle is likely to hurt. It isn't dangerous to have gas, it can just be more uncomfortable. ...Read more

I used to take gas-x a lot in the past. About several times in a few weeks. I never went over the max. Dose though. Can that be bad for my kidneys?
No: Simethicone is a mixture of polydimethylsiloxane and hydrated silica gel. Anti-foaming agent that decreases the surface tension of gas bubbles, causing them to combine into larger bubbles in the stomach that can be passed more easily. It isn't actually absorbed so you really don't have a systemic effect, hence your kidneys don't have to interact with it b/c it never enters the bloodstream. ...Read more

Gas-x often help with gas in the stomach etc. Not so much when it is in the colon, which I assume that is what you referring to as "bad gas" other supplements may do better such as probiotics/align etc...If it is severe, consult your doc for a possible alternative...Good luck. ...Read more
