What Does Tsh Level Of 14 Mean
Normal: Hi. At face value and in the vast majority of cases, that TSH represents normal thyroid fountain; the one exception would be pituitary disease. That's why we endocrinologists always get a TSH and a free T4. But in the VAST majority of cases, TSH alone is OK, and yours is good and normal. To your health! ...Read more
Under active thyroid: TSH level is elevated when the thyroid is under active (hypothyroidism). Depending on the reference range for the lab performing the test, this level would be mildly elevated, suggestive of hypothyroidism. Your doctor may want to repeat the test to confirm and look at the clinical picture to decide treatment is needed. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Repeat: A one time elevation of a blood test should be verified. Your doc will likely repeat it and then do further tests of thyroid function. It may mean that your thyroid is not functioning properly, which can be due to hypothyroidism, which is a very common disease and easily treated. But other things can cause it and your doctor has more info on you: ask him/her. ...Read more
Low thyroid: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, The level is just above the level that is considered indicative of thyroid deficiency. Did you also have free T4 test done, if so what was the result? It would be prudent to see your doctor as you may need thyroid medication. ...Read more
More workup: Currently, it points to hyperthyroidism but you need to complete the work up to know for sure. At the very least, i would repeat the TSH along with the free hormones T4 and t3 (liothyronine). If they also point to hyperthyroidism, then proceed further to find the exact cause for this. Tsh alone does not give you a complete picture. ...Read more
What does a tsh level 13 mean is it really high, little high ? And what are the future health risks for such a number
Need to look at T3 (liothyronine): And free t4. Low tsh, depending on the sensitivity of the assay, indicates thyroid hyper-function. However, the suspected hyperthyroidism needs to be confirmed with high levels of T3 (liothyronine) and free t4. All lab tests need to be evaluated in the clinical context and it would be prudent to take up the issue with your doctor. ...Read more
Depends: on what the lab normals are. In all the labs I've seen, you couldnt get a TSH of 511. 5.11 sure, which is slihglty above normal but NOT what you'd see with thyroid disease. Never seen a neutrophil count of 7.0 that was anything but totally normal. and... if the thyroid is going progressivley abnormal (hashimoto's) TPO antibody test is diagnostic ...Read more
If my TSH level is within the 'normal' range does it mean I don't have a thyroid problem? I've seen people who disagree with this
The reference range: The "reference range" for a lab result is sometimes called the "normal range," and thus confuses people into thinking that a person is normal if his lab value is within that range. Not quite what it means! Some normal people have results outside the reference range. Some abnormal people have results inside the reference range. Numbers are just numbers, thus the doctor looks at the whole picture. ...Read more
My TSH level was 6.2 and now it's 3.4 after increasing my thyroid medicine. What does this mean? What is a normal range?
I had a complete thyroidectomy 10 years ago. I just got a call from my PCP and my TSH level was 7.8. What does this mean?
Underactive: More information would be helpful, like why you had the thyroidectomy and what medicines you are on. But, the TSH of 7.8 is slightly elevated, which means your brain is trying to make your thyroid (which you don't have) work harder. The bottom line is this mean you are being slightly under-treated for your underachieve thyroid and likely need to be on a higher dose of levothyroxine. ...Read more
