What Does Torn Cartilage In Knee Feel Like
What does a displacement of the meniscus root mean? Why does my knee feel unstable when I stand? I do have a ACL sprain and effusion in the knee. Help
In the knee joint there are two types of cartilage, articular cartilage and meniscal cartilage. The meniscus is a triangular shaped piece of fibro-cartilage that sits between the femur and tibia. The meniscus can tear as a result of injury or secondary degenerative changes that occur over time. Because the meniscus cartilage dies not have it's own blood supply, tears often ...Read more
Not a ligament : A ligament connects bone to bone. A tendon connects muscle to bone. Thus, a biceps tendon tear maybe the problem. The biceps can tear at the shoulder or at the elbow. Proximal tears in the shoulder are painful temporarily and usually treated with physical therapy. Distal bicops tears at the elbow are painful and affect function and usually require surgery. Possibly: Has torn cartilage been confirmed by an MRI? How long have you had symptoms? Have other treatments been tried, and did they help? If you have a torn meniscus that is causing significant pain, swelling or locking, then knee arthroscopy, a "scope," can be helpful to remove or repair the torn meniscus. Does a torn ACL always have swelling? Can a torn ACL hurt to twist you knee right to left when standing? I have a lot of instability in the knee.
Usually yes, and yes: Initially, a torn acl usually results in a knee effusion (swelling), but after a few days the swelling can go away. Pain/shifting with twisting activities (even while standing) are one symptom of a torn acl. Torn meniscus tissue or cartilage which can occur along with an acl tear can also cause similar symptoms or the sensation of instability.
