Intestine (Definition)

The gastrointestinal tract starts at the mouth, travel down the tunnel (esophagus), which connects to the stomach, which then empties into the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum---the three parts of the small intestine (@25 feet). This empties into the colon or large intestine (about 5 feet), which then becomes the sigmoid colon, rectum and out the anus. So, every morsel eaten ...Read more

To Keep The Body Healthy, How Does The Small Intestine Work With Other Systems of digestion? Please give at least 3 examples. ..

Protiens, Fat, Carbs: Your small intestine begins at your duodenum and this is where your body actually digests your foods. Enzymes from your liver and pancreas break food down into its basic particles. Meats/proteins to amino acids, sugars to carbohydrates and fats to fatty acids. The rest of your small bowel has miles of small bowel to digest.

When I was born my small intestine was knotted up and some was removed. Was that volvulus?

When I was born my small intestine was knotted up and some was removed. Was that volvulus?

Quite possibly: You say your small intestine was knotted up. That could indeed be midgut volvulus in which your small bowel was twisted around a narrow mesentery, or connection of the bowel to the back of the abdominal cavity. That is almost always seen in intestinal malrotation, when the bowel did not situate in the right location in the abdomen as it was being formed in the fetus.

Having a complete upper&lower GI test to see the the cause of inflammation of small intestine what should II expexpect I'm extra sensitive to anthesic?

Depends...: I assume you mean you're having an upper endoscopy & colonoscopy. If you are to receive conscious sedation in an outpatient setting, this is traditionally managed by your gastroenterologist. However, mac (monitored anesthesia care) does typically involve anesthesia services. Either way, you should discuss your sensitivities with the sedating provider. Good luck with your tests--.

Could diverticulitis cause a blocked small intestine?

Only rarely: Inflammation can cause bleeding, blockage or can allow a hole with a leak to occur. This is almost always in the large intestine. It can cause a big abscess reaction and the reaction of the body to wall this off might trap the small intestine and kink or block it.

Could diverticulitis cause a blocked small intestine?

Could diverticulitis cause a blocked small intestine?

Rarely: If there is enough inflammation or infection from diverticulitis, then rarely the small intestine can become attached to the colon and secondarily become inflamed or kinked in the reaction. I have seen this occur on rare occaision. So typically a small bowel obstruction would not occur in diverticulitis.
