What can a LP high protein CSF level of 46 mean?

What can a LP high protein CSF level of 46 mean?

Many causes: CSF protein results can be high in many conditions. It is best to interpret the results in the context of all the other results of CSF fluid analysis. Some causes are viral meningitis, demyelinatinfg diseases, diabetes, brain abscess, syphillis, brain tumor, alcoholism, and epilepsy ...Read more

My CSF results show normal cell count but show inflammatory proteins-oligoclonal bands, what does this mean please?

My CSF results show normal cell count but show inflammatory proteins-oligoclonal bands, what does this mean please?

Oligoclonal bands: These proteins are immunoglobulins usually detected by separating the proteins in an electric field-charged gel. Many CNS diseases are associated with their presence, but most commonly they are tested for when there is concern about multiple sclerosis. Since many diseases can cause the abnormality, finding them is not specific and must be correlated with symptoms and other findings. ...Read more

Igg synthesis (csf +serum) 20.1, IgG index 1.86, albumin CSF 11.8 , IgG CSF 6.4 , IgG 1080 , albumin 3.7, protein 34 and glucose 54 what do they mean?

Lab Values: These are results from CSF (cerebral spinal fluid) tests that identify values that tell your physician whether you have normal or abnormal levels of Immune Globulin (igg), whether the ratio compared to your blood is correct; adequate protein(albumin) and sugar in the csf. All of these help to diagnose what type of problem may be occurring in your body and nervous system especially. ...Read more

Mri revealed inflammation around spine. Lp revealed protein in csf. What does this mean? Doctor told me sign of MS and no treatment given

See below: Does the MRI show lesions in the spinal cord? Is an MRI of brain also showing "spots"? Is the only abnormality in the spinal fluid, protein elevation, are there oligoclonal bands? Do you really have ms, or is it just a possibility? If you have confirmed diagnosis, need treatment asap. If you do not have a good explanation, get a second opinion. ...Read more

What does it mean when a spinal tap last week read that my CSF total protien is 66 is suppose to be 45 and my album level is 37 suppose to be 25 ?

Spinal tap results: It's very important to interpret the results of a spinal tap or any other test for that matter in the clinical context of the patient. It sounds like the protein level in your CSF is slightly high - but I wonder if there was any blood contaminating the sample that could account for that. If you were having neurological symptoms, then I would hope a diagnosis could be reached to explain everything. ...Read more

I had a recent lp. What does slightly-below normal levels of IgG proteins in the CSF indicate?

Not of much concern: Why did you have an lp? Slightly low igg is not of much importance by itself. It would be prudent to the discus all of the results with your doctor as the context is important in interpreting lab results. ...Read more
