How worried should I be with an A1c of 5.8? My doctor didn't even call me when the blood test results came in so i assume he wasn't concerned.

Higher diabetes risk: A1c of 5.8 could mean a higher risk for developing diabetes. Fasting and post-prandial (after eating) blood sugar measurements are more meaningful in a non-diabetic patient. Weight loss, dietary modification and exercise are the mainstay therapy if you are borderline diabetic. Metformin may also be recommended depending on your inherent risk factors. ...Read more

What do blood test results show? What diseases are doctors looking for during a general blood test?

Saturated fats may cause arterial damage independent of effects on lipid levels, but the degree to which saturated fats increase risk of heart disease is controversial. Alk phos, right?: Alkaline phosphatase is often above normal in certain healthy folks who've eaten recently. Its lone elevation in a healthy person seldom leads to discovery of significant illness. Doctor has called for a urine sample due to low adrenal gland numbers in blood test results. What could be causing low adrenal gland numbers?

Doctor has called for a urine sample due to low adrenal gland numbers in blood test results. What could be causing low adrenal gland numbers?

Many possibilities: A 24 hr urine test is more accurate for the overall level of cortisol in your system, as apposed to a one time check in your blood, since your level of cortisol normally fluctuates throughout the day. Your random check may be normal for the time of day, but it may also be caused by adrenal fatigue, an autoimmune disease, or rarely, tumors. ...Read more
