Talk to your doctor: This is a potentially very severe situation. This should be discussed at length with the doctor caring for you. ...Read more

Dr said that my 4y/o daughter has walking pneumonia after seeing her chest X-ray and listening to her chest. Radiology rpt is negative. What is it?
Exam vs X-ray: A doctor can often hear a pneumonia on a child days before the x-ray will turn positive. S/he can also miss a pneumonia that shows up on x-ray if the common sounds are not audible. In kids, the x-rays will often remain positive for up to six weeks after the pneumonia has cleared with treatment. It is the combination of exam, lab and tests in the hands of a trained doc that comes up with answers. ...Read more

I had pneumonia 3 weeks ago and now have sinusitis. On amox for 2 days no improvement, and a low grade fever. Could it be the pneumonia reoccurring? Should I get another chest x-ray?
May not be pneumonia: If you are an otherwsie healthy patient the liklhood that you would have recurrent infection with the sam bacteria is not lilely. More likely is that you have an ellemnt of allergies or possibly asthma that predispose to prolonged and recurrent episodes of congestion. Certainly if you feel short of breath or are coughing, a repeat visit to the doctor is in order. ...Read more

Why would my doctor send a repeat chest X-ray that showed the fluid in my lungs was better, but still there to a radiologist? Getting over pneumonia. X-ray performed after 2 weeks. Concerned.
Doing better: Your doctor likely truly meant that the fluid in your lungs was better than it was 2 weeks ago, meaning you have less now. That's improvement, even though you may still have a little fluid on the X-ray as read by both the radiologist and your doctor. For further clarification on your specific case, please discuss this with your doctor, as we do not have access to your images. ...Read more

Myleogram set up for 25th. Fused from c3/6. Pain in shoulder/back. Hurts to breathe. Chest X-ray risk for pneumonia. Should I go get MRI @ ER or wait?
Hurt to breathe, C Dr: If it hurts to breathe, and you're out of breath, and your pneumonia is getting worse, then it's time to go to the er. It's not wise to go to the er just to get an mri. That can be done electively. However, anything emergently needing medical care, in which your life is at risk, needs to be taken care of immediately. Also, smoking can make this worse. So don't delay. ...Read more
