What Does Out Of Remission Mean
Sometimes: For cancer, "remission" means we can't detect cancer in your body. You might have cancer cells somewhere that we can't see. In other diseases, remission usually means temporarily gone or not causing symptoms. I use the word "remission" in cancers that are gone for now, but have a high chance of returning. I use the word "cure" only when I am quite certain the cancer is never coming back. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can my child out grow jra? I read she can and also read she can't they jra is a life long condition but can have remission and flares
Can outgrow: Many children will see their jra resolve by the late teens or early twenties. This is especially true of the pauciarticular form (4 or less joints involved). The polyarticular form (greater than 4 joints involved) also can frequently resolve, although not as frequently as the milder form. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Ask your doctor: Such questions are better explained by your treating doctor, but you have to ask them him/hr. Your WBC count is still a bit high. It is easy to get CML into remission which means a WBC count of < 10, 000 and disappearance of your genetic abnormality which is called philadelphia chromosome. The modern treatments are also expected to produce a molecular remission...Ask your doctor about what you hav. Read more
Cancer: If it is in remission can that mean that cancer may not return at all? What tests shows there are no cancer cells?
Yes that is possible: Cancer can be cured with modern therapies. If it is in complete remission then it means no visible Cancer cells. Some such patients will be cured and live a normal life. But some patients do relapse with time, so you have to remain under surveillance and be checked regularly. We have many tests that can show a tumor but all such tests have some false nehgative results which means they are not 100% Read more

If my lupus is "in remission" does that mean my immune system is functioning normally? Or will it still funct differently than a normal immune system?
Still abnormal: Lupus in remission does not equal normal immune seem. Unfortunately, the system is now primed to react to various proteins in the blood, and the disease pattern will be heterogenous. Good medical care can substantially reduce the morbidity associated with lupus so even if you feel reasonably well you need to keep up with your physicians! Read more
I have cushings. When I get surgery to get the pituitary tumor out how good a chance is it that I will have permanent remission?
Depends: A good neurosurgeon experienced in pitutiary gland resection can have an 80-90% cure rate right out of the gate if the patient is well chosen. There is a recurrence rate of between 5-10% which is not necessarily dependent upon the skill of the surgeon. Most studies available show a clear positive correlation between the experience of the surgeon and the success rate in this procedure. Read more
No evidence of tumor: It means that there is no evidence of active disease as assessed by an MRI and perhaps a pet scan. This does not mean that there is not micropscopic disease which can grow--hence the rationale for surveillance scans to monitor the status of the patient. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Having uc but in remission. Developed infection and tests showed wbc/mpf-25-30 34? What does it mean?
What does high blast cells mean that show up in a regular cbc? I have leukemia n can't go into remission, so I feel like my doctor has given up on me.
Consult: I'm sorry about your illness. Some types of leukemia are often curable; others are not. The fact that you have written tells me that this is time for a review by a second specialist in leukemia -- not because I suspect error, but because communication may have broken down. You have an absolute right both to clear answers (outlook, options) and to feel cared-for regardless of your illness's course. Read more
Had 12 rpt tests of cal/pth (10.*/40), dr (s) keep saying its nothing and just 'watch it'. I have symptoms in/out remission, told its anxiety. Give up?
I can't imagine: Why you would have had so many tests, after they keep coming back normal. Symptoms don't make disease, that's where your doctor's training and expertise fit in. Listen to your doctor and look for another explanation for your symptoms, whatever they are (because hyperparathyroidism is generally asymptomatic). Read more
If I bring my thyroid antibodies down to almost 0, does that mean that my hashimotos will be in "remission? "
Not likeky: To occur. Hashimoto's can, like all "autoimmune" disorders wax and wane. So a score of zero could just be a normal variant. HRS, MD, FACC Read more
What does it mean when the CA19-9 level goes back to the normal range when someone has pancreatic cancer? Is this a sign of remission?
Well....: If it was elevated before surgery and now is normal, I would say it is a very good thing BUT, that as of itself does not mean it is in remission or that it will stay that way. Cancer can exist in microscopic form and often there is no way to know for sure, be it with labs or even with scans. Such patient will need long term follow up and maybe even consider post operative therapy. Best 2U! Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
