Why would my thyroid antibodies test be negative?

Autoimmune thyroid: Anti-tpo antibodies are usually elevated in people with hashimotos thyroiditis and often with graves disease. However, the test is not perfect, and is sometimes negative, even if you have hashi. Also, some labs don't perform the test well. See your endocrinologist. ...Read more

Can you still be hypo after testing negative for thyroid antibodies? Is there something else I should be looking at? US thyroid done.

Can you still be hypo after testing negative for thyroid antibodies? Is there something else I should be looking at? US thyroid done.

Not your thyroid: Though you did not mention this, I am assuming your doctor checked your thyroid hormone level and a TSH and that they were fine. Even if you did have thyroid antibodies, that would not make you hypothyroid but would just slightly increase the risk that you could become hypothyroid in the future. I would stop worrying about your thyroid and discuss with your doctor other causes for your symptoms ...Read more

I have thyroid goiter with positive thyroid antibodies; eurothyroid. Does this mean have autoimmune d/o?

Not necessarily: Euthyroid means that at the moment you do not have biochemical hypo or hyperthyroidism. Not everyone with positive thyroid antibodies develops autoimmune thyroid disease. I monitor people like you twice early. ...Read more

My doctor told me i have thyroid antibodies. She ran a bunch of test and said everything was okay. Should i get a second opinion. What does it mean?

Thyroid antibodies: Sometimes we make antibodies to our own organs. The antibodies may result in damage to the organ, but when the damage might result in symptoms is not known. If she "checked" you, she probably looked at your thyroid hormone levels. You need to be rechecked periodically, but not right now. Request copies of the tests and ask her to explain what they mean at an office visit, and ask when to recheck. ...Read more

What does it mean if your doctor tells you you have thyroid antibodies? She felt on my neck and said everything was ok but what can this mean in futur

What does it mean if your doctor tells you you have thyroid antibodies? She felt on my neck and said everything was ok but what can this mean in futur

Higher risk: All that means is that you are somewhat more likely to develop a thyroid problem than those without the antibody. However the presence of a thyroid antibody may or may not lead to thyroid disease at all. It does tell you that you may be predisposed to develop an autoimmune disorder especially with the thyroid. ...Read more

My mom had her thyroid removed and anti bodies not thyroid antibodies have been found in her blood what does this mean? Is this life threatening?

More information: Hi. Why did she have her thyroid removed? Usually that's for thyroid cancer. EVERYONE has antibodies in their blood! If she doesn't have thyroid autoantibodies, then she didn't have autoimmune thyroid disease. If it was thyroid cancer, then not having thyroglobulin antibodies means her thyroglobulin can be followed as a tumor marker. Your statement and question is a little unclear. Care 2 clarify? ...Read more
