CBC test results: Elevated MCHC, elevated MCH, bottom of range for Haematocrit, everything else within normal ranges. What do these results mean?

CBC test results: Elevated MCHC, elevated MCH, bottom of range for Haematocrit, everything else within normal ranges. What do these results mean?

Nothing: Your physician may want to repeat them. I trust you do not have spherocytosis or if you do, that you've been worked up. At most, a reticulocye count may be in order. Sometimes the machines can be a bit mis-calibrated. High MCHC is quite uncommon and if you feel well I wouldn't be troubled. Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. ...Read more

I had a cbc, and my mean corpuscular hemoglobin and mchc are high, what's causing it?

I had a cbc, and my mean corpuscular hemoglobin and mchc are high, what's causing it?

MCH and MCHC: Mean corpuscular hemoglobin and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration look at how "red" someone's cells are. High levels are most commonly due to a laboratory artifact but can also be seen when a person has cells called spherocytes. If your CBC was otherwise normal, i wouldn't worry about it. On the other hand, if you also have a low hemoglobin and hematocrit, you should see a hematologist. ...Read more

I got my CBC done.I have low hb, low total count, lowpvc, low mcv, low mch, low mchc, high rdw. What does it mean? Other parameters wbcand platelets normal.

Microcytic anemia: You need to have the cause determined. Even if it's common iron deficiency, you need to figure out why along with your physician. Don't accept anything short of a full explanation. Anemia is always serious. Best wishes for better health. ...Read more

What does it mean in my CBC test if my WBC count is 10.8, mchc is 300, pdw is 15.8 , lymphocytes is 27.2?

What does it mean in my CBC test if my WBC count is 10.8, mchc is 300, pdw is 15.8 , lymphocytes is 27.2?

Not much: You have a WBC in the range of the upper limit of normal. Have you had a recent infection? None of these values are of concern, and interpretation without the clinical context is problematic. ...Read more

On a recent CBC it came back as low on mch/mchc yet my iron was normal. why is that? doc doesn't seemed concerned.

On a recent CBC it came back as low on mch/mchc yet my iron was normal. why is that? doc doesn't seemed concerned.

Tiny piece of puzzle: If it is slightly low could be normal variation, especially if rest of rbc indices were normal. Plus the MCV would be more affected by an abnormal amount of iron. ...Read more

Should i be concerned about an mchc level of 38.5 from a CBC test? I know it can be a deficiency but i've been taking a multi with B12 for 4 months.

Not MCHC pre se: There are other causes of large red cells, in addition to B12 and folate (folic acid) deficiency, including some medications. It would help to know the whole cbc. All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. ...Read more

Slightly elevated MCHC but normal CBC. Liver enzymes slightly elevated....thoughts ?

Slightly elevated MCHC but normal CBC. Liver enzymes slightly elevated....thoughts ?

Work up : Ignore the MCHC. Reference ranges are set so a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. Your physician will probably have you repeat the liver enzymes after two weeks off alcohol and meds, or perhaps proceed to a search for possible hepatitis, hemochromatosis, Wilson etc ...Read more

ANEMIA: With only CBC and ESR results here, it looks like your child has iron deficiency anemia (microcytic hypochromic). In pakistan, thalassemia, intestinal worms, and some other infections are common giving rise to anemia. Rbc count looks very low. Check with the doctor, the child needs a detail history, thorough physical exam and further tests including iron studies. ...Read more

Blood work CBC and CMP all normal except BUN high 23 and MCHC low 30 for the past 2 months. Any indications or interpretation?

Blood work CBC and CMP all normal except BUN high 23 and MCHC low 30 for the past 2 months. Any indications or interpretation?

? dehydration: BUN was higher than normal. It may have been because you did not drink enough water before the test. If creatinine is within normal limits, a high BUN is not worrisome. However you should discuss it with your doctor and decide if repeating the test is warranted. ...Read more

Lab values: There is nothing about these values that is either concerning or diagnostic. Lab data cannot be easily interpreted outside of the clinical context in which it is occurring and knowing why it was ordered. Fatigue can be due to many different causes and needs detailed professional evaluation if truly troublesome. ...Read more

My CBC report shows that mchc 37g/dl, eosinophiles 8%, and widal test to, positive (1/160) th(1/80) and pt(a)pt(b) negative and triglycerides 238 mg/dl ?

My CBC report shows that mchc 37g/dl, eosinophiles 8%, and widal test to, positive (1/160) th(1/80) and pt(a)pt(b) negative and triglycerides 238 mg/dl ?

Too many variables: The MCHC is basically normal. You have eosinophilia with a high count and the reason for this cannot be deduced from these values. The widal test is basically worthless. Your triglycerides are high but this again can be due to numerous causes. See your doctor and ask these questions to the person who ordered the tests. Labs have little meaning without knowing the full clinical picture. ...Read more

No.: The RDW is just a measure of the range of sizes of the red blood cell. This is often seen in menstruating females who often have a mild iron deficiency who sometimes take iron. A mildly increased WBC and PLT count support this conjecture. ...Read more
