Girlfriend suffering from lump in throat feeling. Was prescribed generic PROTONIX, (pantoprazole) but no changes after 4 days. What could the problem be?
Reflux possible: The sense of a lump is typically caused by something causing vocal cord swelling. A common cause is acid reflux coming up from the stomach which is why she was given the Protonix (pantoprazole). That may still work; can take more than 4 days. The lump in the throat is due to the spasm of the cricopharyngeal muscle which is the upper esophageal sphincter. When there is acid in the lower esophagus it will tighten and cause that sensation.
