Doctor insights on:
What Does Low Rdw Mean
Means nothing: A high RDW is a measure of the variability in size among red cells. When it is low, it's a fluke of statistics, and you should ignore it -- lab "normals" are set so that a few healthy folks lie outside. I run a high RDW as a frequent blood donor, and elevation is a common first-hint that something may be unusual; many healthies have high rdw's for various reasons. Labs mean nothing in isolation.See 2 more doctor answers
Blood count terms: Rdw means red cell distribution width, which is the range of values for the width of your red blood cells. A higher number could mean that you are making lots more red cells for some reason. Mch mean mean (or average) red cell hemoglobin, which is the amount of hemoglobin in each red blood cell. If it's low, this means that your cells aren't carrying as much hemoglobin as they should.
Nothing.: Mcv is red cell size. Rdw is the variation in red cell size. A low RDW has no meaning. Gfr is a way of measuring kidney function, and a GFR over 60 is of no concern.
My son (13) has a slightly elevated RDW (14.8%) and a slightly low mchc reading (32.5%). What does this mean?
CBC interpretation: Please repost your question with the remainder of the CBC results (RBC, Hgb, Plt, MPV and differential) for an informed answer.
MCH is high (39.8pg) MCHC is high (376g/l) and RDW is low (10%) - MCV is normal (90.6fL) - what could this mean?
All cells same size.: The red blood cell distribution width (RDW) is a measure of variation of red cell volume that is reported as part of a blood count. Usually red blood cells are a standard size (6-8? m). Certain disorders, however, cause a significant variation in cell size. Low RDW means less variation in size and can be seen when all cells are large (macrocytic anemia) or all cells are small (microcytic anemia).
Probabky: A low grade infection. You are ok
Anemia: A low hemoglobin (HGB) and hematocrit (hct) mean that one has anemia, or low numbers of red blood cells. A high RDW (or red cell distribution width) indicates that the red blood cells are all of very different sizes. The most common thing to cause this constellation of findings is iron defciency anemia, but other things can too so it is important that your problem be evaluated by a hematologist.
Need a workup: Lab results mean nothing in isolation, and reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either end. Given that, I wouldn't be surprised if you were getting a bit iron deficient, and that's a call for a workup -- are you bleeding from something troublesome like an ulcer or tumor? Your physician should know what to do.
What do you suggest if my RDW and lymph count is high and my MCV and MCH is low what does this mean?
See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, low mcv and mch and high RDW suggest iron deficiency anemia. It would be prudent to discuss it with your doctor who knows more about your health.
On a CBC what does it mean when it says MCH is 25.8 mchc is 31.6 both indicating low and RDW is 15.8 indicates a high read?
May not mean: A whole lot. These numbers could be seen in mild iron deficiency.
I had blood work up done. My rdw-cv came back 10.9, which is a tad low according to the range listed. What does this mean?
Red cell morphology: It is describing your red cell distribution size. More of a computerized data......For analysis with other CBC values. Just ignore it, if pmd has not flagged it.
My neutrophil and monocyte are slightly low and lymphocyte is slightly high. What could it mean? Segmented neutrophil: 34.70, lymphocyte: 59; RDW: 15
Means nothing: These fluctuate wildly hour-to-hour. Unless they are way out of reference range, they mean nothing as long as all the cells appear basically normal.
Laboratory Results: This depends on what your physician is treating you for. These are not specific to anyone diagnosis. The MCHC and RDW are describing your red cell size. The monocytes are one type of cell you have floating in your bloodstream. The high sedimentation rate is seen in various types of inflammation. You physician will explain these as he or she proceeds to diagnose you and treat you
What does low hemoglobin, low hematocrit, low much and high rdw mean? My labs have been like this for over a year
Anemia: Depending on other lab values you may have a B12 or folate (folic acid) deficiency as well, would need more info on your case. You are welcome to make a HealthTap Prime or Concierge appointment with me and we can review all the labs and your current medical history. Then I can give you a much better idea of what you are dealing with.See 1 more doctor answer
What does it mean if my MPV is always elevated and WBC are always low? RDW is occasionally elevated but not often.
CBC values: MPV=mean platelet value. Largely meaningless in most patients. WBC=white blood cell count composed of several different cell types that respond differently, thus rising or falling variably according to the stimulus RDW=red cell distribution width, a measure of how variable red cell sizes are, again not specific but sometimes useful if you are anemic.
