Is low insulin level harmful?

Is low insulin level harmful?

Not like high,,: Low Insulin causes glucose levels to stay high or rise which means the glucose can't get into the cells and serve as nourishment. This is seen in type I diabetes (no insulin) and in type ii diabetes (insulin resistance). This means that the body's fat and later muscle reserves are used. However, if there is too much, like in an insulinoma, hypoglycemia can rapidly result causing coma and death.

I had a fasting insulin level done and it was low 1.5 is that normal?

I had a fasting insulin level done and it was low 1.5 is that normal?

Yes: In the context of fasting, I'm doubtful that insulin has to be there at all. High levels would imply either a start of type II diabetes or uncontrolled insulin secretion from an insulin secreting tumor (non-cancerous moslty).

My daughter of 31 has had bloods taken and her insulin level is 2. What could this mean?

My daughter of 31 has had bloods taken and her insulin level is 2. What could this mean?

Nothing: There is no correlation between Insulin levels and the many reasons that women may have blood clots. Ask your doc why an Insulin level was drawn.

If you have a low cpeptide and insulin level would an insulon pump help with highs and lows?

If you have a low cpeptide and insulin level would an insulon pump help with highs and lows?

It may..: Low cpeptide suggests that your body is not making enough Insulin and so providing your body with Insulin via a pump or injections may help better regulate your sugar. The pump provides better control because it provides a constant preset-levels as well as meal coverage better than injections can. Consult doc. Good luck.

My fasting insulin level is 18 and blood sugar is 4.5. What does it mean?

My fasting insulin level is 18 and blood sugar is 4.5. What does it mean?

Normal: These are normal levels. Why were they done to begin with? If they were done looking for Insulin resistance, you cannot make this diagnosis based on Insulin levels. One needs to see the clinical features, lipid levels, blood pressure.

My doctor says I have an insulin level of 14 where the normal should be 10. What does this really mean and what can I do to normalize it.

Exercise & lose wt: Losing about 10% body weight regular aerobic exercise of at least 150 minutes/week would improve sensitivity to insulin.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

After every meal I feel very dizzy n weak hands shake every day for 2 month random glucose norm insulin level low doc said viral infection what is it?

Hypoglycemia: Shaking of the hands after meals can be due to various reasons u are wondering if it is due to low blood sugar in order to rule that out u should have your blood sugar checked at time of shaking on a few occasion if below 60 it suggests low sugar and then u ned's an oral glucose tolerance test u doctor who knows u well is the ultimate judge.

Fasting blood test showed insulin level 31.9- what does this mean. And I will go see my doctor in a couple days but just want to be educated.

Fasting blood test showed insulin level 31.9- what does this mean. And I will go see my doctor in a couple days but just want to be educated.

31.9: Are we looking at insulin level or blood sugar level? If you mean blood sugar level you MUST go as soon as possible. If not, how are you checking your insulin level. While waiting to see your doctor please go online and look at both blood sugar level and insulin level. I may be wrong but I think you are not measuring your insulin level. Please let me know how things go.

A1c 5.2, CPeptide 1.5, Insulin level 4.3 uIU/mL, Estimated Mean Plasma Glucose 87.16. Fasting was 79. Was told to start Metformin...why? Do these numbers mean I am diabetic? Afraid to eat certain foods now.

Is that so?: Glucose and A1c are fine. I would get a second opinion. This does not say "diabetes" to me. Food choices are not the key to managing diabetes in any case. Stay physically fit and get with another physician.

I have pcos. My glucose tolerance test was perfect. My insulin level was so low it couldn't be found. I was told that's not good. Why is that bad?

It's not good: Or bad -- just a test that should have never been ordered since the test is meaningless in that situation and most labs can't do accurate Insulin levels to begin with. If you didn't have insulin, you would have lapsed into a coma from high glucose levels long ago. The diagnosis of pcos is not made by a GTT or Insulin levels.

Am I diabetic? So worried. A1c 5.2 CPeptide 1.5. Insulin level 4.3 uIU/mL Estimated Mean Plasma Glucose 87.16. Are the numbers normal? I am so afraid to eat sugar and carbs. 51 years 120 lbs.

What's the problem?: Your HgbA1c and glucose are fine. Diabetes at your age is genetic and not caused by eating sugar or carbs. You're right to fear it, but even if you have the genes for it, you can hold it at bay by staying physically fit. Be less afraid of sweets and more afraid of not exercising. Best wishes.

Anxiety: Two things: 1: I hope you are seeing your Gynecologist to monitor your hormone levels at your age. 2: In my opinion "pre-diabetes" is a meaningless term. Either you have diabetes or you do not. Seems you don't have diabetes - well done!! 3: Anxiety needs care. Have your doctor refer you to a Psychologist. No you are not crazy but you do need care.

What medications can raise the insulin level?

What medications can raise the insulin level?

Diabetes?: Are you asking this question in terms of treating diabetes? One class of medicines called sulfonylureas are used in diabetes to increase Insulin production by your pancreas.

My fasting insulin level is 18. Is that abnormal?

That is elevated: But we need more information. What was your glucose (sugar) level? We need both pieces to have better information. But in general, that Insulin level is elevated.

My insulin level is less than two. How bad is that?

My insulin level is less than two. How bad is that?

Meaningless: Get your money back from whomever ordered an Insulin level on you in the first place. They are almost always meaningless, and the routine lab assays are notoriously inaccurate, even when ordered appropriately. If you truly had a low Insulin level, you would have already been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

Can heavy lifting daily/over training cause high insulin level?

Can heavy lifting daily/over training cause high insulin level?

Insulin: High endogenous insulin levels may be due to an insulin secreting tumor or spikes in blood sugar, but I don't think that exertion raises the insulin levels unless blood sugar rises. However if you have had problems with low blood sugar after exercise, consult an endocrinologist for evaluation and advice.

Can you please discuss the consequence of the raising up of insulin level (after taking food)?

Can you please discuss the consequence of the raising up of insulin level (after taking food)?

Insulin: The Insulin level rises in order to store excess carbohydrates that were consumed at your last meal. The body only uses about 35 grams of carbs at one sitting. The rest get stored and Insulin is responsible for making the storage happen.
