What does it mean when you have a low creatinine clearance?

What does it mean when you have a low creatinine clearance?

Impairment: of kidney function. The kidneys are not filtering waste out of the blood as efficiently as they should. Most of the time low creatinine clearance is due to some sort of disease of the kidneys themselves like inflammation or decreased blood supply. Recurrent urinary tract infections can also damage the kidneys. Best to see a nephrologist for evaluation. Thanks for trusting HealthTap! ...Read more

Creatinine Clearance (Est)	L 73.3600	mL/min 75.0 - 115.0: Why is my level low? Is it because I'm a small 64/ female and eat no red meat?

Realize: As we get older out kidney function does slowly decline. Think of the kidney as being made up of a million Brita filters. As we age, some of those filter stop working. If you have blood pressure, cholesterol, and/or other vascular issues even more of these filters can stop working. Be aware even your diet(as you mention) and/or muscle mass can affect this value with suggestion of a problem. ...Read more

Proteinuria: You have 1 gram of proteinuria/day (p), which is a lot. Your physician should send off blood for aso, anca 2, complement c3 and c4, hiv, hepatitis b antibodies, hb a1c and ana. A renal biopsy may be needed, to get a diagnosis and a prognosis if the blood work does not give a diagnosis of your p. Your p needs to be treated and once a diagnosis is made, you can start on a course of treatment. ...Read more

My father aged 70 has renal disease .Creatinine clearance is 7 .Some mornings his blood pressure drops very low even to 50 70 . Pl suggest?

Renal Failure: Your query raises some interesting points. If your data are correct, at a creatinine clearance of 7 ml/min, your father should be on dialysis. Is he? If so, speak to his nephrologist (n). If not, have him see his physician who can examine him and take some blood work to see what his blood count is. If his blood pressure is very low, you should get him to an er to have him assessed. Good luck. ...Read more

My lab reports are serum creatinine 80, GFR 72, and creatinine clearance 69.9. my 24 hr urine creatinine was 6.9 and spot urine 2.2. What does it mean?

Not much: You're 55 years old and -- congratulations -- a recovered problem drinker. Unless you're especially fit or heavily-muscled, your creatinine may be a bit high and maybe your kidneys are getting old -- but this level is perfectly compatible with good health and if you had serious kidney disease, it would be a lot worse by now. Eat sensibly, stay fit and I bet your kidneys will last a lifetime. ...Read more

Kidney problem?: With the information you provided, I do not think you have a problem with your kidneys. Creatinine is an indication of your kidney function and, just as important, is gives an estimation of your muscle mass. A high creatinine clearance may be seen with uncontrolled diabetes, which you do not have. Speak to the physician who ordered these tests on you for more information, he knows you best. ...Read more

Blood test: estimated creatinine clearance test (low), what could it indicate? EGFR & creatinine normal. Potassium & sodium low. 28yr/f

How do you FEEL?: Many (maybe most) pathologists and nephrologists aren't impressed with the current practice of labs estimate GFR, creatinine clearance and so forth from a spot creatinine. Some formulas include race "because black people are more muscular than white people" -- these were never intended to be applied to individuals. Frankly, if your others labs are healthy, I'd ignore it. ...Read more

How to boost your creatinine clearance?

Renal health: Creatinine clearance depends primarily on the glomerular filtration function of the kidney. There is no way to boost it above the normal level, nor is there any need for it. If your creatinine clearance is lower than normal, you ought to consult a nephrologist. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more
