What does it mean to have low absolute monocytes?

Not much

There are no specific disorders associated with low monocyte count. If you are otherwise well, do not worry about a low monocyte count.

What does low wbc and high monocytes mean?

Hard to comment

without the actual numbers. How low? The monocytes may be a relative increase and not absolute. ie a high percentage of a lower number may be perfectly normal in total number

Dr. Gurmukh Singh answered:

What do low lymphocyte, monocytes, and high neutrophils mean?

Need actual results

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the test is usually in the best position to do that. You did not provide the actual values, so it is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion.

What does it mean if my monocytes are low and neutrophils are high?

Relative v.absolute?

Autoimmune
The percentages can be misleading. One must really look at the absolute amounts of both. Depending on the circumstances, a true absolute neutrophilia may be caused by a list of conditions too long to list here. In most cases, the low monocyte count is due to the relative expansion of neutrophils (infections, smoking, trauma, autoimmune conditions, even some cancers). Your MD should be able to help

My bloodwork reveals chronic low lymphocytes and monocytes, high ch50, pos ssa and ssb, pos. ana. What does all this mean?

Sjogren's

Antinuclear_antibody_(ana)
The presence of both the SS-A and SS-B antibodies strongly suggests Sjogren's syndrome. While dryness of the eyes and mouth is the most common finding, many other symptoms and lab abnormalities may be seen in Sjogren's syndrome. If you haven't already been evaluated, ask your PCP for referral to a rheumatologist.

Should I worry High Lymphocytes, Monocytes/100 Leukocytes, and Platelet Mean Volume (38.5, 7.8, 10.6 respectv) and low Neurtrophils/100 Leukocytes 49?

Abnormal cell counts

Platelet
Unfortunately, the numbers you present may be percentages & not total cell counts. When we interpret a CBC we look at total cell counts and the % of total whites made up of each cell line. These can vary w/infections, nutritional status, stress, medications, certain medical conditions..... Would be best to review the labs w/ your doc & get an educated interpretation based upon your presentation

What do low absolute monocytes meam?

Usually nothing

Falling_backwards
Reference ranges are set so that 5% of healthy people randomly fall outside. If your absolute monocyte count is a bit low, and you feel well, and everything else is reasonably close to normal, I would ignore it. If monocytes are absent, I would think first of a lab error.

Dr. Ed Friedlander answered:

Low iron, high liver enzymes, high absolute monocytes count.. any correlation?

No

Liver
The absolute monocyte count seldom tells us much in isolation. If by "low iron" you mean a low serum iron, you need it interpreted; if by "low iron" you mean a low hemoglobin / hematocrit, you are anemic and this is serious. High liver enzymes require a workup for alcohol and drug toxicity, hepatitis, hemochromatosis, Wilson's & others. Never focus just on labs.

Dr. Dragos Luca answered:

My one year old has high monocytes (1.8 absolute) and low neutrophils (0.5 Absolute) could this be an indication of leukemia?

Probably not

Leukemia
At this age, the most likely cause for neutropenia (low neutrophils) accompanied by mild absolute monocytosis (normal is about 1) is an infection, most commonly viral. Consulting with your pediatrician is recommended.
