Yes, most likely due: To bleeding into the joint from the fx. It can hurt even at rest, in the early days (upto 2 weeks at least), after which it subsides to a great extent. Avoid weight bearing on it. Consult your orthopod for specifics of the treatment. ...Read more

My medial malleolus was fractured during trekkers vs pedestrian on 5/4. I got an orif on 5/8 and got two screws.The md wants me pwb in a boot. There is no pain in the ankle, but the medial knee hurts. Is it normal?

Early PWB?: Not sure if i read that correctly, but it's only been less than 2 weeks after an ankle orif and you are pwb in a boot? If you're having pain in the knee, the boot may be off setting your balance and your hip might be next. Usually i wouldn't let my pts walk until i see bone healing on x-ray after orif (usually 6 weeks), but i hope that helps! ...Read more

Tough to answer: The majority of tibial plateau fractures do not involve the lateral ligamentous structures. In general, the lateral structures (fibular collateral, popliteofibular, popliteus, etc) require surgery to repair or reconstruct. I think your case is much better addressed with a specialist and careful review of the situation. ...Read more

It depends: Many tibial plateau fractures can be treated non operatively. Casting is not typical but often times a brace is used. Surgery is often needed for depressed and displaced tibial plateau fractures. Usually both a CT scan and x-rays are both needed to fully evaluate the fracture pattern. ...Read more
