Dr. Michael Engel answered:

If both my girlfriend and I have sickle cell trait, what will it mean for us? What are the chances of having a healthy kid? We're Both 22

Provided both are Ss

Children
Which means you are heterozygous for the HgbS mutation (one normal beta chain and one sickle cell mutant beta chain), then Mendelian genetics define risk for having disease, trait, or normal. You have a 25% chance of having a child with sickle cell, a 25% chance of no disease, and a 50% chance of your child having trait. Disease severity is affected by other intrinsic and extrinsic factors.

Dr. Scott J. Diede answered:

Could you tell me if my boyfriend has sickle cell trait does that mean our children could get the disorder?

No, if you don't...

If your boyfriend has trait (one beta-hemoglobin gene normal and one with the sickle mutation), and you do not have trait, than your child has a 50% chance of either having trait or having two normal copies of the beta-hemoglobin gene.

If me and my partner has sickle cell trait, does this mean my child will surely get the disease?

Not necessarily

Open-uri20121009-12899-1s87f52
If you and your partner both have sickle cell trait, there is a 25% chance your child will be normal (not have sickle cell trait or anemia), a 50% chance they will have sickle cell trait (just like you and your partner), and a 25% chance they will have sickle cell disease. Prenatal diagnosis is available early in pregnancy that will tell you what your child has.

Dr. Robert Kwok answered:

My 12 year old dayghter's T3 level is 208 and her T4 is normal. Her glucose is high, her Vitamin D level is low, her platelets are high and she has Sickle Cell Trait. What does this all mean?

Not enough details

Hard to tell what's happening from just numbers. A doctor can evaluate the patient along with the test results, and take into consideration what meds the patient takes, what symptoms she has, why the tests were ordered, what the "units" of measurement were, what the "normal values" of the tests were, etc... For starters, this patient may need a TSH test, and some vitamin D supplements.

How is the sickle cell trait passed on?

Straightforward

Sickle_cell_anemia
The beta globin gene is on chromosome 11. Everyone has two, one from each parent. If you have sickle trait, one is normal and the other has the sickle mutation. Half your germ cells (eggs or sperm) will carry the normal gene, half the mutated gene. If you give the mutated gene to your child, they have sickle trait. If they get a mutated gene from your partner too, they have sickle cell disease.

What causes the sickle cell trait?

It is inherited

Sickle_cell_anemia
Hemoglobin (hgb) is a complicated chemical that is in the red blood cells and carries oxygen. We inherit one gene from each parent that makes one of the parts of hgb called beta chains. If we inherit a sickle beta chain gene from one parent and a normal beta chain gene from the other, we have sickle trait. If we inherit a sickle beta chain gene from both parents, we have sickle cell anemia.

What is sickle cell trait and anemia?

Genes

Blood
Sickle cell anemia occurs when someone has 2 sickle cell genes. Normal hemoglobin (HB) genes code for HB A. A sickle cell gene codes for HB S. Having 1 HB A gene & 1 HB S gene leads to sickle trait. This will have no symptoms, but has some health consequences. 2 genes for HB S leads to sickle cell anemia. To make things more complicated, there are other abnormal HB genes that can cause problems.
