Many things can cause your symptoms: nodules on vocal cords, infections, tumors, nerve damage, or it just might be the "way you are." thyroid might be involved, but not necessarily. Multiple causes: You could have a vocal cord polyp or nodule, you could also have reflux disease which may be more likely. Even if you do have the former, conservative treatment is the same. Speak in a normal voice - no screaming or whispering. Try to drink enough water and reduce spicy or salty foods. Prilosec otc may help if taken for 4 - 6 weeks. I've had a hoarse voice for over 3 weeks and there is a small lump on m y thyroid. Could this be related?

Possibly but unlikel: Nodules of the thyroid can cause hoarseness by affecting the recurrent laryngeal nerve that is near the thyroid. An ENT would be able to see that one vocal cord is not working well. However, this is a rare problem related to thyroid and usually requires a large nodule, that is typically malignant. Laryngitis: See my tip on this. Try to rest your voice for about three days. Increase humidification in the bedroom, drink extra fluids, avoid shouting or raising your voice for about 2 weeks. This will allow the inflammation of your vocal cords to resolve. If you still have problems after instituting these measures for 2 weeks, see an ENT. ...Read more
