What Does It Mean When Your Tsh Is Low
May be hyperthyroid: If the TSH is below 0.1, and you are not on medication for the thyroid, then you are probably hyperthyroid (rarely a pituitary problem.) see an endocrinologist because this can lead to serious problems if not treated. If you are on medication and the TSH is low but above 0.1 and you feel good, you may have just received a slightly more potent batch of med. ...Read more
More workup: Currently, it points to hyperthyroidism but you need to complete the work up to know for sure. At the very least, i would repeat the TSH along with the free hormones T4 and t3 (liothyronine). If they also point to hyperthyroidism, then proceed further to find the exact cause for this. Tsh alone does not give you a complete picture. ...Read more
My thyroglobin and thyperoxid were 380 and 300. Anything over 120 is positive. My TSH and ft4 were low but within range. Does this mean anything?
Autoimmune thyroid: Abnormal thyroglobulin and peroxidase antibodies are consistent with having autoimmune thyroid disease. This may eventually evolve into an overactive or underactive thyroid, but currently it sounds like your thyroid levels are normal. There is no particular treatment needed at present, just periodically monitor thyroid levels. ...Read more
Need to look at T3 (liothyronine): And free t4. Low tsh, depending on the sensitivity of the assay, indicates thyroid hyper-function. However, the suspected hyperthyroidism needs to be confirmed with high levels of T3 (liothyronine) and free t4. All lab tests need to be evaluated in the clinical context and it would be prudent to take up the issue with your doctor. ...Read more
What does this mean? Low henoglobin 129, low MCV 77, low MCH 25. Also have high TSH 10.48, ALT 62.
Hypothyroid, anemia: Low hemoglobin associated with a low MCV and MCH is usually related to iron deficiency. You should have an iron, tibc, ferritin level done. The high TSH implies a lowthyroid level. You need a free T4 level, and probably a higher dose of synthroid (thyroxine). Significant hypothyroidism can cause iron deficiency anemia, but other causes need to be investigated. The high alt implies a liver problem. ...Read more
Low thyroid : A high TSH almost always means that there is too little thyroid hormone in the blood. It would not usually cause decreased kidney function as suggested by a low egfr (estimated glomerular filtration rate) or breakdown of red blood cells (hemolysis). The hemolysis and decreased kidney function might be related however. Your situation is and complex and potentially serious - see your doctor! ...Read more
Thyroid labs: Hi. See an endocrinologist. Make sure it's a free T4 (not a TOTAL T4). If you have low TSH and a low free T4, that's compatible with pituitary disease causing hypothyroidism (so called "secondary hypothyroidism"). IF you have that (not saying you do), you need to be checked for pituitary problems and other pituitary deficiencies (adrenal, most promptly); If u have secondary hypothy, CHECK ADRENALS ...Read more
My TSH serum test shows 0.011 which is marked low against normal value during pregnancy. What does this mean?
You postpartum?: Hi. It sounds like you're no longer pregnant and you delivered your baby. Is that correct? Autoimmune thyroid disease is not uncommonly seen in the postpartum period as a woman's immune system revs back up after delivery. You may now have Graves' disease or a postpartum subacute thyroiditis. Your doc may refer you to an endocrinologist for help with diagnosis and management. Good luck! ...Read more
My blood work showed that my tsh reflex is low. On 6/12 it was .12. On 7/24 it was .01. What does this mean?
Hyperthyroidism: Low TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is indicative of an overactive thyroid, whether due to excess medication or just naturally. Watch for racing heart (palpitations), tremors, weight loss, anxiety, insomnia, etc. Check out http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hyperthyroidism/basics/definition/con-20020986. Work closely w/your doc to figure out why your TSH is low and correct it. ...Read more
what does elevated LH and low FSH and above normal prolactin in men mean? my LH is 6 (1-9) normal, FSH 2 (1-9), prolactin 19 (0-11), TSH 3.84 (1-4.0)
First decrease of tapazole (methimazole) (15mg to 10) shows increases in TSH (from 5 to 9), ft4 (9 to 11; 12-22 norm), ft3 (low norm to mid). What does this mean?
Need less Tapazole (methimazole): I assume you are being treated for an overactive thyroid. Once thyroid levels drop significantly, one has to decrease the dosage of tapazole (methimazole). If you drop the dose too much, your thyroid level would become high again. If you don't drop it enough, the thyroid level remains low. Based on your numbers it looks like the dose of 10 mg is still too much. ...Read more

What does low TSH 0.2 with normal free T4 mean? What is its treatment and does it need to be taken all life long?
Likely normal: Your TSH may be slightly low and may be normal for you. Do you have any symptoms? It is generally not a good idea to treat lab values. All lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. It is likely that you need no treatment, however, it would be prudent to follow your doctor's advice for follow up tests. ...Read more
My TSH 3rd generation level came back at 9.490. MY T4 was normal and T3 (liothyronine) was low.Taking 200 mcg. What do these numbers mean?
Still hypothyroid: Not sure how long u have been on thyroid replacement, but if been on 200mcg daily over 6-8 weeks, likely require increase dose. If u have just had u'r medication adjusted the. Repeat TSH usually done in 6 wks; the numbers show that u'r body is still in hypothyroid state and that u'r thyroid gland is making less and less hormone or the T4 is not being converted to T3, (liothyronine) so thyroid medicine needed ...Read more

My TSH levels are normal, my T4 is almost low? what could this mean? I have 3 hyperechoic nodules on a diffused thyroid. Size .09 to 1.5 CM.
"almost" low: means normal, so stop worrying about your lab values. Your nodules, on the other hand, need someone to evaluate your clinical parameters and ultrasound carefully and decide whether you need to have a thyroid biopsy. ...Read more

18m/o with high platelet (652), high mono, low neutrophil, high retic and high tsh? What do these mean?
Many possibilities: I dont know of a way to put all of those things together into 1 disorder. A high TSH implies that the thyroid level is low, but this needs to be checked as well as repeating the tsh. The other blood count abnormalities could be due to many possibilities. You would need to see a hematologist about it. ...Read more
What does it mean if I am a female, have normal estrogen, testosterone & TSH, but low sex hormone binding globulin?
Nothing - u r normal: Regardless of gender, if your estrogen, testosterone & TSH are normal, then you're normal. Sex hormone binding globulin is used to bind up sex hormones, exactly what it says. Sometimes we check both total hormone as well as free hormone, since it's typically free hormone that accounts for benefit claimed by hormone. But rather than look at numbers, consider how you feel. We treat patients, not #s. ...Read more
