What Does It Mean When Your Muscle Enzymes Are High
It is a body tissue that has the ability to contract. It shortens and generates force. It relaxes and returns to its original length. Muscles move joints, stabilize the body, move air and food through the organs, act as valves for bladder, bowel and other organs. They control movement of the eyes. They help us express ourselves by changing the shape of our ...Read more
What do elevated muscle enzymes in blood work without muscle strains? Does this mean I am going into kidney failure?
Slightly elevated AST and ALT enzymes in blood work. It was ordered for fatigue/muscle weakness. What does this mean?
Maybe "hepatitis": Hepatitis is defined as inflammation of liver cells, as is indicated by elevation in serum transaminases (ast and/or alt). Hepatitis can be caused by a variety of issues (infectious, ischemic, metabolic, toxic, infiltrative, alcohol-related, drugs, etc.). It is impossible to say why your liver tests are elevated without more information. However, your values may rise due to muscle problems too. ...Read more
Gout and CPK:
Muscle enzmye -CPK does not usually rise with gout but in rare cases if on colchicine and uloric drugs used to treat gout you can have elevation of CPK. Also if someone is on a statin (used to treat high cholesterol) like lipitor (atorvastatin) can have elevation of CPK . F/U with doc

CPK: Creatine (phospho)kinase. This enzyme will be elevated generally in disorders that injure muscle or when muscles are not working right. Extremes of exercise or injury can cause this, as can disorders of the muscles themselves, some hereditary. There are other forms of the enzyme that can come from other parts of the body, so this should be evaluated by a practitioner. ...Read more
Many.: Simply exercising vigorously will elevate cpk. Bruising or straining muscle can elevate enzymes. Drug reactions to statins can do this. An certain metabolic myopathies and inflammatory myositis can causes this. I've gone from the least important to some serious issues, which are fortunately less likely! ...Read more

In 2-year-old boys, : elevated liver enzymes alanine & aspartame transaminases signal the need to check a muscle enzyme, creatine kinase, while evaluating for hepatic disease. If all 3 enzyme levels are elevated, molecular genetic studies may reveal a diagnosis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy or Becker Muscular Dystrophy even before clinical onset of progressive muscle weakness is obvious. ...Read more

My blood test just showed high muscle enzymes. My doc says its cuz i started working out. Is this a possible effect ? All orher tests are normal
Maybe: Modest elevations of the CPK can occur after a vigorous work out. I would suggest stopping workouts for 3-4 days and then rechecking the lab work. ...Read more
Could AST and alt( liver enzyme ) be as high as the 200s because of a over worked inflamed muscle?
Liver enzymes: Ast and alt are released when the liver cells (hepatocytes) become injured. Usual physical activity with muscle soreness would be very unlikely to be associated with liver injury. However, many common medications, including Acetaminophen (tylenol) can cause liver cell injury. ...Read more
Chronic herniated discs upper back lower neck, chest pain-mostly dull sometimes stabbing, neck muscles feel tight, high liver enzymes. R they related?
Yes and no: Herniated disks and various pain syndromes are certainly related. Do you know why your liver enzymes are high? Please make sure you are not taking too much tylenol (acetaminophen) or tylenol (acetaminophen) containing products, as tylenol (acetaminophen) overdose can cause elevated liver enzymes. Hepatitis c can cause high liver enzymes as well as muskuloskeletal pain. ...Read more
My mother took a fall & couldn't get up. Tests show that she has enzymes leaking from her muscles. What does that mean?
Lower right side back pain/more like a dull ache than pain. Feels like I need to stretch the muscle. Slight elevated liver enzymes. No other symptoms?
The two could be re: The two may be related. This is something to discuss with your physician. The liver is on the right side where you are having your symptoms. This needs to be evaluated. ...Read more

The doctor who ordered those tests should follow up immediately and direct the next step to investigate what is wrong, and that might even be a hospital admission. You should seek medical attention from your doctor or an urgent care facility to figure out what is going on and start treatment. ...Read more

My husband went to the emergency room with pain in his chest they told him that his muscles enzymes were at 1000.
Not much: The enzymes are likely CPK or creatinine phospho-kinase. These can leak out of all muscle tissue if they are stressed or injured. the number is not very high and will likely be fine. Why they ordered this test for chest pain... i'm not so sure. Troponin is a better test to check if the heart muscle is involved, which was likely also checked and normal if you were sent home. ...Read more

Nonspecific: A number of hereditary muscle diseases can mimic your symptoms, and you can have a muscle biopsy which will reveal your exact condition. The numbness is not of muscle origin however, and raises question of underlying nerve disorder instead. Go to local medical school and see neuromuscular specialist. ...Read more

Abnormal: Liver enzymes are found in the liver cells. If the cells are injured, the enzymes leak into the blood and the blood level increases. This can mean there is injury to the liver (hepatitis). These enzymes are also found in muscle, so heavy exercise (body builders) can have elevated levels as well. If your enzymes are elevated, it is abnormal and further testing should be done. See your doctor. ...Read more
Liver inflammation..: Liver enzyme elevation usually is a sign your liver is inflamed or irritated. There are many potential causes the most common of which is fatty liver disease. Fatty liver may herald more serious problems like Insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. Weight loss is effective at melting the fat away and normalizing liver enzymes. Good luck! ...Read more
Depends . . .: It depends upon which liver enzymes were elevated. High bilirubin suggests blockage or obstruction of the biliary tract. High alt & ast suggest fatty liver or excess alcohol consumption. High protein may be multiple myeloma. Toxic amounts of Acetaminophen (tylenol) can also elevate liver enzymes. Ask physician who ordered test for his/her interpretation & what to do next (possibly ultrasound). ...Read more
