What Does It Mean When Your Liver Levels Are High
Transaminitis?: Not sure what you mean by the "liver level" but but liver enzymes commonly measured in the blood are called transaminases 9eg. Ast, alt) and when they are elevated it suggests there is inflammation of the liver and this can be on the basis of many possible causes including alcohol, fatty chage, hepatitis (infectious, autoimmune, vascular) or drugs. Good luck! ...Read more
This organ plays a major role in metabolism and has a number of functions in the body, including glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, hormone production, and detoxification. It lies below the diaphragm in the abdominal-pelvic region of the abdomen. It produces bile, an alkaline compound which aids in digestion via the emulsification of ...Read more
Elevated transaminas: Could be due to intrinsic liver diseases like hepatitis A, B, C, or due to alcohol or cholestatic picture like Gall bladder disease or common bilary obstruction or pancrease (pancrelipase) diseases. Knowing the liver enzyme levels will help narrow down the differentials ...Read more
Dr says my glucose levels high and liver levels are slightly high what does this all mean and what will be done next?
Glucose: It could mean you have pre-diabetes or diabetes. There are many reasons why liver enzymes will be high but in someone with glucose elevation, fatty liver is also a possibility. I would work closely with your doctor to get the risk factors under control. Discuss all this with the doctor who ordered the tests for you. Good luck. ...Read more
My b12 levels are always 1200-1300 and my alanine levels are high. Does it neccesarily mean something is wrong with the liver?
Maybe: Elevated B12 means nothing. You're making more of the binder protein for some reason. Nobody measures alanine, but if your alanine amino transferase (ALT / SGPT) levels are up, you'll want to know why -- if it's not alcohol, you may have a medication allergy, a viral hepatitis, iron overload, Wilson's, autoimmune hepatitis, or it may be your body's way of asking for more exercise. ...Read more
ALT is 48 (elevated) but all other levels pertaining to the liver are normal. Does this mean that my liver is failing?
High b12 for many years until last test level was in middle, does this mean my liver is doing better? All fasting morning tests and same b12 vitamin
We ingest most of: Our B 12 from meat, especially red meat. Are you presently eating less meat? That would account for it. If your B 12 was high, I don't understand why you were taking this supplement. Peace and good health. ...Read more

Cirrhosis: Ammonia is a breakdown product of proteins, and is toxic at high levels. One of your liver's jobs is getting rid of toxins in your body. Viral, inflammatory, autoimmune, familial liver diseases have their own specific tests. ...Read more
Misunderstanding: Perhaps your physician has told you that the liver enzymes are elevated. You'll be asked to have them repeated when you're not taking your usual meds or alcohol (if applicable), and if they're still up, you'll be worked up for serious illness (hepatitis b ; c, hemochromatosis, wilson's, a few others). They may just be up because you need more exercise. Best wishes. ...Read more
Need more info.: Doctors treat patients, not tests. A single lab value requires additional information in order to properly interpret it. All labs come with a range of "normal" values. This is the range of values expected for healthy individuals. Unhealthy people can have normal values and vise versa. Best to consult with the physicial who ordered the test to answer your question. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
This is serious: Most folks run 20 or under and the reference range top is probably 40. Listen, friend. You'll have this repeated after two week off medication and alcohol, if appropriate. If it's still up, you'll get a workup for several deadly-if-missed, easy-enough-to treat illnesses (hep B/C, hemochromatosis, WIlson's, autimmunity). It may simply be your body's way of asking for more exercise. Best wishes. ...Read more
Hello, my son is 2.9 years old, his liver test results high level of LDH which is (H)286. what could be cause of this?
Not from liver: Young children higher levels normally than older and adults, and labs may not give normal levels for age group. The higher levels in children are due to the much higher rates of bone growth. If the liver is sick LDH will be higher, with elevation of two liver-specific enzymes, of which you would have been informed, so they were normal, excluding liver disease. In short, this is a normal level for your son ...Read more
Will maltofer pill per day raise ferritinin too much if taken for two month? Iron level at high end and feritinin 800. All liver tests, ultr. Normal
What was the level?: What was the level of ferritin before you take the iron supplement. If the level was very low- then after 2 months on iron- I don't expect the ferritin to go up that much. Other things has to be considered-like inflammation etc. If the level was high to begin with and yet you took the iron- then yes, it make sense now it is going up to 800. That is why you only take iron if you have low iron. ...Read more
Depends. . .: It depends upon which liver enzymes were elevated. High bilirubin suggests blockage or obstruction of the biliary tract. High alt & ast suggest fatty liver or excess alcohol consumption. High protein may be multiple myeloma. Toxic amounts of Acetaminophen (tylenol) can also elevate liver enzymes. Ask physician who ordered test for his/her interpretation & what to do next (possibly ultrasound). ...Read more
